I think my PC is underperforming

Hi there! Hope ur good!

I own a 3600 + 6700xt combo, with 16gb of ram playing at 1080p.

I used to run a 1650 super, but upgraded a bit ago.

However, I don't think I'm getting the performance I should. In a game like Palia with medium settings, I get 60fps but frequent drops here and there. Same with Warframe, which are the two games I'm playing the most lately. Also tried TESO and Guild Wars 2 and I'm getting the same or less good performance as with the 1650s.

Last week something happened and my cpu was reaching 100% no reason. I was doing what I do normally, playing while watching something on my second monitor. So far that issue was resolved (don't ask how, I really don't know) but that got me really thinking about the performance. I don't really push my pc to a limit where the CPU would need to reach 100% and I don't play many games that push the gpu to it's limits. Most modern game i've tried was Dragons Dogma 2 and even when I know it has a lot of perf issues, now I'm thinking that the performance of my rig can also be dragging that experience too.

Was planning to upgrade my ram to 32gb, but this also got me thinking of my CPU but I don't really want to expend that much money right now, I can't even.

Any ideas? Need some help with this, please :(

Might wanna take a close look of what is using resources on your PC and IF something is botching your performance

However, it's important to note that the Ryzen 3600 is starting to show some white beard, it's still a very capable CPU but on more recent (unoptimized games) you might have a little trouble, worse if RT is on

Also, please put the rest of your system specs, would you kindly?

16 GB RAM systems are increasingly inadequate and the 3600 isn't particularly the fastest CPU anymore. It's little surprise the 6700 XT is not performing to its fullest.

In order of priority:

Immediate: Buy a 32 GB RAM kit. DDR4 is incredibly inexpensive nowadays and all you need is some DDR4-3200 or 3600, lower CAS latency preferred but don't overpay for it
A little later: Save up for a Ryzen 7 5700X3D or 5800X3D, this should bring your rig up to speed inexpensively, these perform great for games

If you can buy both right now, that'd be great

@Dr. Dro is right your 3600 is holding back the modern games...

this video is to demonstrate 4k but you can see what your ryzen5 3600 caps out even with a super gpu

you could do some benchmarks (like passmark performance test) to see if you have at least the performance you should be getting (gpu and cpu wise) and also could check temps and cpu and gpu during gaming with hwinfo - if it's running as it should compared to same cpu/gpu then the games are probably really too demanding for your setup

ram you could check in task manager during gaming if it's full (80 percent would be already kinda full and Os starts swapping heavily on SSD)
