i5 2500 advice

Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting an i5 2500 and mobo as an upgrade. What mobo would you guys recommend and is the 2500k worth getting over the 2500? I wont be overclocking and am looking for the best bang for my buck with the motherboard. I'll be throwing in my 5870 and 4 gigs of ram into this upgrade. Thanks in advance!

I cant say what board is the best but on a budget the Biostar boards are usually priced very reasonable. Some enthusiast may disagree but I am on my 4th Biostar and all worked great. What board would really depend on what features you need or want. As far as the chip if your not overclocking there is no reason to get the K model that I can think of. The only purpose of the K is to overclock.

my recommendation:

i5 2500k

Asus p8p67 Mobo

4Gb 1600Mhz DDR3

you should be able to hit 4.7Ghz real easy with that setup. you might need to fork out a little for a better cooler though to keep the temps down

id get the i5 2400 or the i5 2500K. the i5 2500K is for overclocking and imo the i5 2500 isn't worth it for the price/gain from the i5 2400 and i5 2500K. Faced this dilemma a couple months back.

Either 2400 or 2500k. The diff between the 2 is much higher than the 30$ you'll pay extra for the unlocked version because overclocking SB unlocked parts to reasonable GHz is a joke really and you get a huge performance boost for 30$ more.

More worth getting the 2500K (as you only save $15) to some that might be a big deal, but I guess it's all personal preference in that specific case.

Otherwise, the 2500K is worth the extra $15, regardless if you're not planning to Overclock ('cause you actually might!)

Might I suggest another 4GB of ram? Or even a new 2x4GB kit from Corsair Vengeance or G.Skill Ripjaws X?

So are you guys suggesting 8 gig of ram then? I already have 4 gig. Will this make a diff in fps, a considerable one? Even going to 1600 from my current 1066? If its worth it then I'll do it , but I am on kind of a tight budget this time around. I do believe I will go with i5 2500k ,Asus p8p67 Mobo.

funny that! Your right! LOL , I guess what I'm saying is am I going to see noticable frame rate increase by getting faster ram? I'm pretty sure thats why I stuck with 1066 a couple of years ago, because for gaming there was no increase worth talking about. I could be wrong.

i just bought a asus p8z68 m pro,matx board for aus-146$ new,and 2500k for 220$-i think its a nice board,seems to be pretty snappy,runs quite cool too,not sure if that helps ya.

it's my understanding that with the amount of memory bandwith the SB processors have, you need 1600 speed RAM to get the most from your CPU, especailly if you OC the CPU.

From what I have read 1866 is the sweet spot for them. After that the gain is minimal at best.

Also from what I have taken in, SB likes 4x2 more than 2x4 when it comes to ram. My vote for 2500k!
