I have the upgrade bug for some reason. If you had a GTX470 would you keep it till you can't run a game with it maxed out or would you upgrade to a 5xx or 6xxx series card??

sidegrade/slight upgrade time for you IMO.

I wouldn't go far out of pocket on something more high end than what you have now, but a sidegrade to a 6950 or 560Ti could ease the shakes.

I wouldn't if I wasn't so sick of not having 2 gbs for gta. Unless another partner like evga or msi gets it together I've got a palit 560 in my future.

thats just eating unnessesary power really. Id rather get some more powerful that uses less power, runs cooler and quieter. Like a 6950 lol

EDIT: I better wait for some for Crysis 2 and BF3 before choosing if i should upgrade.

the problem with the 560 Ti pricing at the moment is it seems inflated depending where you buy.

my Gigabyte GTX460 OC was 169 Euro at the time of purchase (now 165) and the Gigabyte 560Ti OC is 289 Euro... hardly worth it for the ~30% extra perf.

if you can get two at the right price then go for it imo, they scale fantastic and do very well for themselves as power consumption and temps go.

I'd look at the MSI OC model, Palit OC model, or Gigabyte OC model, they are all very close to MSRP and kick some ass.

quite a bit cheaper solution again is 460 SLi, which will w00p the 470 you have now, and overclocking them is easy and fruitful.

I have a GTX470 and right now I don't see a reason to upgrade. Maby when something much newer and better comes out.

Of course you should upgrade. This is techpowerup, not luddite.com. Anytime one of the brethren feels a need to upgrade it is actually a calling from the mighty tech God, "Moah Powah".

If you feel the itch my buddy, scratch it as much as your wallet can afford too. Remember - you're not just buying a product - you're investing in the global economy and in doing so, helping the 2nd hand market when you sell your 470.

    Moah Powah demands you upgrade.

Only worthy upgrade is gtx 580 or the gtx 590 if you can afford it. Otherwise no.

I wouldnt, i think you have plenty of power for most of todays games.

I have a 4870X2 and i dont plan to upgrade anytime soon, i havent seen anything that realy seems worth it to be honest at this stage.

as everyone else has said its just is not worth it, even to a 6970 its not worth it at all. wait for better tech imo

i have a 5870 @ 1000/1300 and that come in line if not better than a 480 and thats more then enough.

Tbh i didnt feel games slowing, just more the itch for something new to play with / bench so i picked up another 5870 for less then half the price i payed 10 months ago for my first 5870 and had some nice crossfire action.

with the 2 cards i really dont plan to upgrade anytime soon as i just dont see games getting that much, more powerful atm.

    I do have a GTX470, several actually, and no I wouldn't upgrade. I especially wouldn't upgrade to an overclocked GTX460...I mean GTX560...

About 10% at best performance wise, the major performance improvement comes from clock speed and nothing more.

at the same clocks the 560 seems to have ~10% on the 460, and I'm happy to have bought a 460 at a fantastic price 2 months ago :)

The only way I would get rid of my 470 is if I stumbled on a spectacular deal on a 580, and even then I would probably hesitate.

I just think in his position grabbing a 560ti is not a smart decision (price/performance wise). I see the argument he gave for power consumption, but if I was in his shoes and had the upgrade itch, I would grab another 470. 470 SLI is pretty damn powerful. :toast:
