I'm not upset. The way I see it now (after reading a bit more) you were asking TPU more about the decision to liquidate the 280s for the 480 and you were asking EVGA if the 480 is a good decision. Still I have the feeling your mind was made up from the start...

every one on this thread hasn't owned a 480 to see how they run, reviews are not always 100% true W1zzards said they do not overclock well when looking around people have posted very good results, and they mite be high in price but it comes down to brand you like and i like nvidia over ati thats just me, and i didnt ask for advice to upgrade to any thing else than a 480 so maybe you should read my post.

yes your right there because i only asked on evga because looks like no one on TPU has a 480 , i just needed some input on sell my cards and going to a 480 and if it was a smart thing to do because i had to buy 2 new coolers for my 280s if i wanted to keep them and run them in sli, because of my overheating problems,

I don't think the GTX480 is as bad as everyone thinks. If I were to pick between that or a 5870 I'd get neither. Not a good investment at this point in time for me since I'm waiting for the next series.

aye, in the UK a hd5970 is only £50 more though so a gtx480 is a bit illogical for the most part. Unless you hate dual gpu setups with a passion.

yeah, the nvidia cards are far more expensive than the ATI counterparts outside of the USA. its because we get even less of them for stock purposes, so they have to ramp the prices to cut back demand or they'd sell out too fast.

You're asking forums for an Nvidia ONLY company about whether or not to buy the next "best" thing from Nvidia or not.. yeah, that's a smart move.
Really, if you don't like ATI for whatever reason, then just go buy Nv to please the fanboy inside and don't even bother asking us considering you obviously already know what your choice is going to be.

Right now, there's only three reasons to buy a 470/80; 1) Because you've got money to waste. 2) You want a new toy to play with for the lulz. 3) You're a God-forsaken fanboy.


Here's an idea, grab one or two 5850/70/90's or a 5970 before trying out a 480. If you're not convinced after a month or two, sell them and pick up a 480 - You've never had an ATI card, now would be the best time to check out the opposition imo.

For the last time read what my posts about i wasn't asking for alternative! i was asking if it was a good idea to upgrade from my 2 card to a GTX 480 and when i said i don't want to go to ATI that my choice

You live in Australia, YOU CAN BUY 2x 5850's for the price of one GTX480 ... Its a no brainer, do yourself a favor and step into the world of red, at least for now.

Dont i make my self clear why cant you's just aspect my choice, i dont care about what the card cost it come down to in the end one GTX480 is abit better in performance than 2x 280 in sli, and 280s in sli did me fine i was going to have to buy to new 2x GTX pro coolers for them any ways, there for i dont care about the price.

What everyone means is that there are other alternatives. Performance wise the GTX480 isn't better than a 5970 and they are about the same price.
