Hi

In your opening post you mention the following hardware:

Specs:
970 ASRock Extreme 3
AMD FX 64 Quad 4.2
12Gb DDR3 Kingston RAM
Ati HD 4870
Seasonic SS-500 (500 Watt)
Win 7 Premium Pro (Extreme Edition)

Are you using "12Gb DDR3 Kingston RAM" tri channel memory kit; in a dual channel motherboard if Yes Try with just two of the 4Gb sticks in DDR3_A1 & DDR3_B1
Source - http://www.asrock.com/mb/manual.asp?Model=970 Extreme3

hope this helps

Try this above ,also move the 4870 to the second(PCIE slot 4) x16 slot.Could be the slot has dust in it from shipping.....But what you wrote in the other post,It booted out of case ounce usually means not enough juice,Yeah Sea-sonic is good ,But you have to remember the crossfire AMD certified specs have not been updated for FX procs. So i would try getting your friends PSU to see if it boots yours...just a hunch.

Buddy of mine has this same processor, he loves it and it OC's real well, hence why I bought it.

Okay bro, you were absolutely right, eventhough Im tired as hell and wanna sleep, but the beers just keep on coming and this rig has me pretty much tweaking on it haha.

You were right about grounding, I just benched everything and it now turns on, however we're back to step one now, same problem.

Wont go into POST, same lights on the GPU.

So you touched the parts with wet beer hands?

BINGO NEVER EVER RUN A PSU ON CARPET=STATIC DISCHARGE =FRIED EVERYTHING...here we are wasting our time and knowledge on you.......Get you friends PSU and see if the parts are good still,AND run it on wood or something ,Try thr cardboard box the MOBO came in .....:banghead::banghead::banghead:

No way. The beer was far away from any of the operating parts. And by the way I was working on the PC, the beer was done. So, no, definitely did not touch anything with wet hands.

And at this point, after all the help I am sure that the PSU is fried, eventhough the fan turns on and it has enough juice to power up, just not enough to run the machine.

Thanks!

Most machines will not even Initiate the VGA Post portion without the CPU present.

Another thing is that my old CPU was 95w, this new one is 125w.

I had a stock acer mobo, requiring little power, then I moved up to this monster ATX, and with a shorted / fried PSU, I'm sure its the culprit. Still got to try and reset CMOS and run just the bare board.

Thanks for all the help guys. :respect:

I was thinking the same thing, without CPU the board wouldn't even know what to do, right?

Anyway, I'm going to RMA the seasonic. And go from there.

Ya expect a model back or the same one if its not found broken.

And Yes thats normally the case the machine will not boot, Ive had that happen when the CPU wasnt inserted into the board right and pins were damaged

Thats fine, Ill be happy with the same one or equivalent for as long as it runs my rig.

Yeah I also heard that they charge 35 dollars return fee if not found broken! However what exactly do they do to test the PSU? Because I did the short between green and black wire with a paper clip and the fan does come on, but is there any way I can see how much voltage its putting out? Id imagine I can use a volt meter but where would I plug my leads?

At this point, nothing else makes more sense than a failing PSU.

I will do that however money is tight as of now, so if the seasonic can run this for at least a month or two, that will give me enough leeway to put away some cash.

Got a handfull of bills, not to even mention a 7.3 TDI sitting outside that takes 180 to fill up.

ya thats right its a diesel

Absolutely a damn big one too, 99 f 350 powerstroke 4 door long bed, 4" banks exhaust, stage 3 tune and 40" grapplers and what not.... but thats the choice I make, because I wouldnt be caught dead driving a honda or similar.

Went to a nearby off roading park and messed up a planetary gear in my tranny, burned out the torque converter so the money needs to be saved for the actual rig, not the baby rig sitting at home lol. To rebuild tranny - 650, new torque converter 350. So, as you can see, money is a bit tight, and getting $9 an hour working on diesel 18 wheelers and car tune ups is not helping much at all. So hands are a bit tied.

Ya they say they good but honestly they break ive noticed and plus when a old card hits them or even a truck most of them are critically injured or killed no matter how many airbags there are.

I Have a 2003 GMC Base Model Sierra, been running strong.

Yeah they do, you cant imagine how many calls I get regarding hondas and acuras. These kids buy them dirt cheap, add an intake and exhaust and they think they have a ferrari, then they go out racing on public streets endangering themselves and others, cops have been really cracking down on people with hondas and acuras and anything that looks slightly modded, and I cant blame them, too many innocent people die because of these shit heads.

Nice, never really hear anything about GMC's... how do you like it? Do any type of work with it?

Sure I do, I said thanks numerous times for the help!

Did you update your bios? - How do I update without it booting up? Not even POST.
Unplug everything but ur gfx card and mobo - Did that.
Reset cmos leave the battery out with the psu unplugged for atleast 20 mins - Waiting
Take all your ram out and only use one stick - Done
and reapply thermal paste - Plenty there
unplug everything but your keyboard - Done

Okay waiting for the 20.

NOTHING.

PSU my hunch once again.

I bought it in 2006 with 65k miles on it, it now has 155K Miles on it. N If You want to race, take it to a track is all i can say for the kids. My parents have a 2000 Suburban (GMT800 Body)

Yeah those Vortec v6's are good engines, not something that is comparable to the GM's 3800 series V6. That thing is absolute bulletproof. I had the 3.8 in my Impala. Loved it. 155k aint bad for a truck, performed your full service on it yet? IE water pump, belts, thermostat, oil, coolant, all filters, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, run some seafoam through it, you know the preventative crap. Lol, those suburbans are guzzlers man!

Anyway, back to the issue, I sent out the PSU today and should have one back within a week or so.

Thanks for the help brotha and I will get back shortly with the results!

Ya i did most of that in 2007, Cap and Rotor is the only issue I have with it, i tend to burn them up in a year it seems thanks to trash in the air, Thinking of looking at how a 2008 and up model have their electronic ignition system wired since its the same Engine used in them, Less If I can find a High Performance Cap and rotor and not mess with the distributor or Coil.

The Suburban runs a 5.3L and it has 350,000-400,000 miles on it. I havent changed the water pump or timing chaing and gears either. Fuel Filter I think is due for a change as i did that in 2007. I also am running on brakes that are that old (new rotors aft, and resurfaced in front).

Vortec 4300 is just a Vortec 5700 (vortec is a kidney shaped head) 262 V6-350 V8) with 2 cylinders removed, Same bore and Stroke, same Firing Order excluding cylinders removed. Yes the 3800 is a strong V8 Based engine aswell, Just too bad they no longer produce them as the 3600 replaced them. Whats amazing is both 4.3 and 3.8 are all cast iron/steel (IMO which is able to tolerate heat better than aluminum without warping as easily)

If you're not too tight on money why not switch your stock ignition to an MSD ignition? Better spark, fuel economy and youll free up some horses. I believe you mistaken the 3800 V8, it is infact a V6 engine. Chevy Impala, and a good bunch of Buicks and some oldsmobiles come with the 3.8 V6. 3.4 is the downgraded version available for cheaper. I wasnt aware that they had a 3.6, which cars are those in now? What are the ratings for that 3.6? Actually I believe my neighbors Monte Carlo has the 3.6. Seem to be okay huh?

Well whilst the cast iron / steel is stronger than aluminum, aluminum can take heat much better without much problems. Many of the older engines end up with cracked blocks and walls. The older Iron / Steel gets, the less flexible it becomes and is prone to cracks. While aluminum holds its composure for most of its life and will only warp under very high heat. Aluminum is a more compact metal and is able to withhold more HP under compression rather than an iron / steel block which usually has to be reinforced and sleeved if you want more power. So there are drawbacks and pros to the aluminum blocks.
