Just needing opinions on a build Im thinking about, got the 9500 cheap just wondering if this is a good overclocker or even worth investing in a motherboard for it? Im not a big amd fan but a x4 should be a good cpu shouldnt it? Any recomendations on a good motherboard for it? Had 1 suggestion for ecs motherboard , but, seen too many junk ecs boards.

i guess it depends...i have 2 9600 be cpus and even though they took a hell of alot of abuse in the community, they have been really good cpus. from gaming to video encoding i have been pleased with their performance. just buy an open box board from newegg, there are a few 790gx boards for less than 70 atm. you can always upgade to an am3 cpu later if your not satisfied. here you go..there is also a biostar board... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157162R

now after saying all ofthat, i am considering selling one of my 9600 and going w/ a phenom 2 x2 or an athlon 2 x2 just to reduce my power consumption.( i have 4 pcs in this room and it tends to get a bit warm in here...lol)

Like I mentioned before in your other thread, its a good cpu some overclock to 2.6Ghz without any effort, some don't. But most of it go to 2.4Ghz easy. At that speed its decent. Load it up with all the mean tasks like video encoding, streaming, DB applications, Virtualization, File server, audio encoding etc etc just no gaming. Its only so so in gaming. ECS boards were shitty but lately Asus took that spot  So you can buy a cheap $40 brand new ECS board from egg and be done with it. I have and had many ECS that runs 24/7 without any issues.

Here is a list of ECS boards

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ption=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=

I have the ECS GF8200A black and yesterday I bought A780GM-A 1.1 black. My server is running ECS A770A. My mediacenter is running flawless for last 2 years with NForce6MA. My clients PCs run A740GM 1.1 flawless for last one year. So trust me, you will be suprised and happy with ECS. Pick any of the black edition boards for the best stable machine.

my 2 cents.

My biggest problem with ecs is that they use or at least used to use like 2 layer pcb where everyone else was using 6 layer, had a couple of them back in the 478 days that dropped on their face if you volted the ddr or cpu like it was bleeding threw everywhere on voltage and then it wouldnt get any voltage same settings. Ive always used gigabyte but like with asus, gigabyte has been letting alot down also. Starting to look at dfi and foxconn now

I personally wouldn't bother with any first gen. Phenom, though I guess it depends what you need this for.

Like I said ECS used to be shitty, for that matter most companies are then and there.

Whats ur budget? And what u intend to do with the 9500. Worst come if you don't want the 9500 sell to me lol. I will put it in the WCG machine.
