It's been a while since I installed gfx drivers. My concern is about vista and gfx card driver installation. How do I go about this. How do I install GFX drivers properly.

    Problem:
Uninstall old drivers, vista installs default wddm drivers for gfx card. Went into dev manager
uninstalled card/driver and restarted, Vista automatically installs AGAIN default WDDM drivers and asks for a Re-boot, but I did not reboot, removed the WDDM driver/device from Dev manager. Ran CC cleaner, Driver cleaner, reg edit, removed mostly anything related to it. Then manually refreshed dev manager for new devices, it saw the card as "VGA Adapter", then clicked on "Ask me again later" on the new hardware found dialog box. Ran nvidia setup, but after installing, it stated "system was not modified".

So how do I go about clean driver installation on vista?

Previously I install WDDM driver 1st (default), then update it with the nv package, I think I'm doing it wrong, coz when a driver is successfully installed it will have the nv tray icon right?

    Opinions pls..

    Thanks Psyk~

    I had the same problem.

You can try going to vista options (right click computer, properties, system settings) and there is a setting in one of the tabs saying "dont install drivers automatically"

Also when you uninstall, make sure you tick "delete driver software"

That option didnt work for me though. What I did to install new drivers was: as Vista decided to install its own, I got task manager up and ended the process. Then installed my own driver :)

Im not on my vista machine atm (at work)...but what you can do is when it comes up in applications in task manager (as "windows installer" or watever it is), right click --> go to process and end it. There shouldnt be many other apps there on a fresh startup lol.

Yeah it bugged me too. Much frustration to install a 6800 GO driver on my old Inspiron

Allright, Thanks! Gonna reboot now and try and see if that annoyance shows up, although I don't have install drivers when I connect device set on windows update on hardware properties, it STILL insists on installing its own! Lmao... Brb gonna try out your suggestion! Thnx man
