Intel's newest quad-core socket LGA-775 processor, the Core 2 Quad Q9505 (s-spec: SLGYY) adds to the series of upper-mainstream Core 2 Quad processors based on the Yorkfield cores. With a clock speed of 2.83 GHz and a bus speed of 1333 MHz, it matches Core 2 Quad Q9550. The difference here is the L2 cache amount. Q9505 features 2x 3 MB of L2 cache. It supports every other feature in the series, including Intel VT support. Started selling in Japan, the Core 2 Quad Q9505 is priced at JPY 22,770 there, while it's expected to be priced at around US $210.

who says 775 is dead now?? though It confuses me why Intel want to release a waterd down Q9550 when the Q9550 has already dropped dramatically in price in the last 6 months.

If I can't afford a Q9550 and water cooling by the time xmas comes around, then this will definitely be my alternative!

The price will drop once it matures. Or Intel might just do room for i5 and EOL Q9550 (prolly not).

Anyways it's nice to have more quads for S775, have another upgrade plan if more games start needing more than 2 cores. By that time though 32nm i5 quads might be cheaper option :)

Once it matures? This is two 7x00 cores put together. There is nothing to really mature here. Plus, you can get the "full" Q9550 at a Micocenter for $170 if you have one near. That's even more reason not to get this "crippled" Quad.

This processor is more than likely just replacing the Q9400 that (I think) went EOL earlier this year.

no i just mean that stores always ramp up the prices on new stuff, and always drop the prices as time goes on.

independent of cost to them, or intel.

Mussels - i dont think so
The Q6600 is here to stay for some time...
My Q6600 with the GO stepping works at 3.4ghz without any problem and it has 8mb of cache not 6mb..
So i thinnk there isnt any diffrence beetween my Q6600 at 3.4ghz with 8mb cache, and this
Q9505 with only 2.8 ghz and 6mb cache,
Well it may run cooler, and may not eat so much energy as the Q6600..but thats where similarities ends.

Yeah, plus this way retailers can cross off the $210 and put "30 dollars off!!!!" once they start selling them for $180.
