Can you see what voltage your cpu is running while the voltage is on auto? you may be able to run the chip at that clock with a lower vcore set manually, which will drop the temp a bit.

I dont know if 60c is too high for an e8400 though.

Idle is probably to hot, load for the stock volts I am going to say is hot as well, I would remove the heatsink, clean off the chip and heatsink, and see if that helps at all. Also what are you current ambient temps?

60C is fine as a max temp but 45C is too high at idle IMO, damn my E8200 running at 4 gig does not push out anywhere near those temps, it idles at 33C and loads at about 50C, what temp monitoring are you using as many of them just dont work properly with Wolfie's.

i'v tried a few but realtemp and NVIDIA System Monitor i use the most i droped my vcore down to 1.3v and seems it drop from 63c-53c what the hotest safe temp for the E8400

I think the max TCase is 72C.

All recent CPUs throttle or cut out at max temp. So try it and see, if it cuts out or throttles then you need better cooling or less voltage but it won't harm your cpu. What can easily harm your cpu is excessive voltage or disabling the temp cutouts etc.

Also remember that in normal use you'll never reach a 24hr orthos load temp.

the antec paste is fairly crap, to be honest. its just a generic goop with their name on it.

    Grab some MX-2 and you'll save a few C.

you should also look into a new CPU cooler, something like the xigmatek 120mm coolers should cover your needs perfectly (the zalmans get beaten fairly soundly by thermalright and xigmatek)

my 8400 is running temps very close to what Tatty One's 8200 is running when I have it turned up to 4 gigs.

There is something very wrong here. Even though the Zalman is not the best cooler, it should be keeping temps lower than this. Get the MX-2 and reseat your cooler. Also, make sure you have proper airflow throughout your case.

some of your temps all seem a bit high, but not in the danger zone yet. good quality TIM will help a bit. as long as you have good airflow, i wouldnt worry about 60c load. its within thermal spec, but a bit high. just keep your voltage at a reasonable leavel. i think 1.35 is the max volts you should run for 24/7 usage.

for example, i run a e8400 at 4.2ghz with 1.304volts and i load 50c max under a lapped tuniq tower. i even have another water cooling setup i could use, i just havent fealt the need to bother setting up.

It should be fine,If you know how to do it,try changing the paste for some mx2.It will improve the temps a bit more.

xigmatek 120mm models. theres a new one out , cant recall the name.

The IFX is actually pretty poor.

the 1283 is the well known ones, theres a 1284 as well, but it actually goes by a name and not a number. They're both great, the 84 edges out the 83 but it also costs more.

    thats the one.

I wouldnt be surprised at a 5C drop from that cooler, and some MX2 paste would probably take another 2-3C off.

this post says the 1284 is best for AMD, the 1283 with retention bracket best for intel.
