Will depend on the quality of the PSU. State your brand and model of your PSU.

I have a similar system with Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB RAM and RTX2080Ti. My Corsair TX650 is more than enough. The system peak power measured on the wall socket is less than 500W.
As mentioned by 8tyone, any good 650W PSU will do. Avoid cheap ones from unknown brands.

The psu is in almost perfect condition, it is the Corsair cx650f fully modular ATX power supply
I had a Corsair CX600 that after 3 yeasrs could not power my Ryzen 3700X + GTX1080 combo. Had to swap to a higher tier Corsair TX and add 50W more.

Corsair CX650F RGB version? Right?

According to theCultist tier list its in the mid tier range ( for RGB version only ). It should be okay. 4070 is extremely efficient!
You could also check extreme.outervision.com for calculation. According to me atleast, its fine.

650 should be plenty, even high loads that cpu board should be at most what 350-400watts between cpu/gpu. maybe little more. Looking at site reviews cpu is around 150watts max, gpu is 200 ish so give take maybe 450 at max.

If you upgrade your CPU, you might want to do your PSU too. My system as is can do over 650w. This little 750 is holding up better than I thought it would.

You're fine, it's a 65W chip with a 200W GPU you could get away with less wattage using a higher quality unit.
As mentioned though you may as well wait for the 4070 Super since it's not far off. If nothing else you might be able to get a vanilla one cheaper.

Thank you, will probably wait as retail price appears estimated to be close to current 4070 costs

I'm aware, and I've run higher watt CPUs and GPUs with a 550W unit just fine.
Granted it's not apples to apples since I used a different model, but OPs should have enough overhead even just being an OK unit.

I have hurt a few, but it takes some abuse.

You are probably right, but I do not trust PSU's.

Totally understandable. It can get murky with certain "brands" and I put that in caps because nothing matters except the OEM.
These days I just don't recommend anything other than Seasonic - get a gold rated one with a 10yr warranty and be done with it.

This is actually the reason why I do not trust PSU's lol..

I bought a Prime GX-750 in 2020. In 2021 I was able to buy a 3070Ti to replace my 980.

That PSU would crash so hard with my 5900X and 3070Ti that I would have to trip the switch to get the system running again.

Seasonic pretty much told me to stuff it. It is driving that GPU with a 5600X right now, its fine like that.

Edit:

This EVGA that I am using now feels like a tin can piece of junk compared to my Seasonic, but it can drive my system.

Seriously? Wow is their CS different in CA vs US?
I'm not shocked about a bum unit (it can happen), but I am surprised to hear they snubbed an RMA.

I wouldn't knock Corsair either for that reason in the US (warranty support) and certain models are of high quality too.

I think so. I ran a 11600k + 4070 on a 600w for a while without problems. And it was Apevia, and they're not exactly known for quality ( but they are a lot better than they used to be.)

Grab a 4070 Super, 5800X3D and a good 850/1000 W PSU.

You'll be good for at least three years.

In my system I have a ryzen 5 5600x, 32 gigs of 3600hz ram, a 3060 ti, a gigabyte b550 x v2 motherboard, would this be enough on a 650 w power supply which was purchased last year

For such a system (with a 4070) a 600-650W PSU is recommended by outervision calculator
That is I believe for the stock FE (200W) version of 4070.

If you can run a 3060 Ti, you can run a 4070. The 4070 uses less power than the 3060 Ti.
