I don't know much about game development, but my favorite game studio's lead engine guy (He who optimizes the game), uses a core 2 duo and an 8800gt. The idea is to optimize with the lowest common denominator. Take that as you will, just adding it as something I thought of.

This. I used my Vizio TV to run 3d(edit) battlefield 3 and it was limited to 24Hz and it felt laggy even at high framerates. I don't see 30Hz being much better.

Same-ish model (E3D420VX). Was 120Hz a native option or did you set up a custom resolution?

3d gaming at 1080p is limited to 24Hz and 60Hz at 720p (tho it's useless since you can't turn on game mode when viewing 3d content.)

EDIT: I see the confusion. I didn't say 3d in my other post. Gonna edit that in. Still curious if 120Hz was detected from the get go for normal 2d.

    trading a 290X for a 780Ti muh ... not worth it tho ... a good 290X is not far from a 780Ti and has 1gb vRAM more

For me 7% to 8% isnt worth it, ofc with a EVGA Classified it is 17 to 18% but the price difference kill it in the end, oh well in land where the price of the AMD cards isn'T ruled by the cryptocurrencies market.
As for me a custom design 290X is 579chf and a EVGA Ti class is 819chf, well if i take the same brand its 579 to 679/769chf and 100 to 190chf wouldn't be worth 7-18% perf increasing.

of course its a personal opinion, and if you can sell a 290X to get a 780Ti while adding 150$ it might be worth it (i realize it is totally opposed to what i state above that line ahahah  )

well if you take perf/watts efficiency ... it might be worth in the end ... :D

    I think you're mistaken. I was thinkin of trading a GTX 780 not a 290X
