My card is very loud and hot. WTF is with it?

Btw- my case is Lancool K62 by Lian Li with additional Xigmatek 120mm Blueline in 5.25'' bay.

the stock temps is normal, the overclocked temps is a bit high... but its very known that AMD cards gets VERY hot when overclocked, overclocking is not a guarantee and you cant compare your overclocking results and heat output with others.

The heat/clock ratio on the AMD cards is very bad compared to nvidia cards.

Reason for this is: The AMD cards comes so highly clocked out of factory already, thats why the sweet-spot between frequency and heat output comes so soon on AMD cards compared to nvidia where u can do 150mhz core overclock with no significant increase in heat output compared to stock.

But to answer your questions: it looks like stock temps are normal, and the card is loud, the new 6xxx series is loud in load.
Louder then the 5xxx series.

I guess, adding more fans to the case would help to solve your problem... Try adding a big fan blowing right at the card (120mm+)

I can't add any fans because I've got 2x140 top, 1x120 back, 1x140 + 1x120 front (my case - Lancool K62 by Lian Li)

I think that my MSI HD6850 is too hot. Why? Temperatures should be such as described in this review http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-radeon-6850-review/9 so I'm sure that my card's spoiled. I'm going to give it back to the seller.

I'm thinking about Gigabyte WindForce HD6850 OC version (820/1100) or Sapphire HD6850 Toxic (820/1100). Which one will be better? Which one will be colder and more silent? What do you think about it?

The gigabyte with windforce is cooler and more silent.
But tbh, if you have to spend extra money to get one of those, it wouldnt be worth it, just get your 6850 replaced with a new one and see if it solves the problem and overclock it urself ;) Or if you got the money, get the 6950 and unlock it to 6970

Good, the gigabyte card is very good, it can be compared with 6870 when overclocked a little.

A little? From 775/820 to 950 and even 1100 (core)?

Yes the 5850 is faster, BUT ! With the 6850, you get faster tesselation performance, you get also some additional improvements over the 5xxx series.... Personally, i would not buy anything thats older, even tho its faster.... Also the new 6 series have much better crossfire (when using 2cards) then the 5 series.
Do you really have to buy a radeon then? otherwise you could wait until the nvidia gtx560 hits the stores in january, its gtx460's replacement

I'm going to buy Radeon. The price is good now. But I'm waiting for a refund for the returned to the store model from MSI. Only then I will buy a new card. It probably will take about 2 or 3 weeks. Maybe by that time prices will fall a little bit?

I prefer the Sapphire, Gigabyte is the next one.

FUD and misinformation....

But to answer your questions: it looks like stock temps are normal, and the card is loud, the new 6xxx series is loud in load.
Louder then the 5xxx series.

I guess, adding more fans to the case would help to solve your problem... Try adding a big fan blowing right at the card (120mm+)

My 6970 is a BIT hotter (by maybe 3 degrees at load - but then its a faster card on the same process(40nm)) than my 5870, but the fan is somewhat louder at the same rpm. Compared using the same fan profile in Afterburner.
You could try Cratzky's suggestion (a good suggestion btw) as well as maybe re-seat the cooler with a good TIM if your adventurous.

As for who's cards run hotter when o/c'd, I have 1 word -FERMI. I rest my case.

So you're returning the card since it runs too hot while overclocked with the fan speed set to auto? My 6870 hit over 84c on stock clocks in the winter and it has a bigger cooler. My 6950 with a 6970 bios is a lot worse than that. If you want to overclock you need to tweak things too.

That card in that review that you linked to has a different fan profile than your card and guess what? If that card runs cooler then it is probably louder.

Graphics card I have pointed to the store. Now I'm waiting for a refund. In Poland there is a provision that when purchasing online goods can be returned to the dealer to 10 days of receipt.

In my opinion the graphics card is too hot. According to the test on the website should be around 60C at load at 775/1000 - my card is about 74C.

My card is factory overclocked to 820/1100. Under load it reaches around 76C. Maybe it's not a lot but the fan speed is automatically set to 70% (2750rpm) - it is therefore too loud.

I decided therefore that I will take the card quieter, with better cooling.
I put on the Sapphire or Gigabyte. According to the opinion of users of this forum is a better product from Gigabyte - so I probably take that.

Keep in mind that when they review cards on the net, they dont use them in cases.... they use them in open testplatforms , mostly in rooms which has below the normal home room temp. So you will never see the same temp when putting your card into a case as the reviews on the net.

Personally i find these reviews very wierd as they show gtx470 for example at 92c on a open testplatform in a cold room... my gtx470 does not go above 88c when the fan speed is set to auto and benchmarking, so how they manage to hit 92c is for me very wierd as i got my 470 in a very closed case with no pretty much no fans (1x 120mm intake fan)
When i add another 120mm fan blowing right at the card, the temps drops with 5c.

I got a personal fan profile set up now so my card never goes above 72c, yes its a little bit louder, but nothing that disturbs me.

The thing is , when you build a computer, you got a choise..... quiet and slow or the opposite, you can aim for the middle, but then ur gonna have to do sacrifices.

Look at this review. You card is a reference card just like the one in the review and every 6850 out there afaik.

My 6870 runs 45-46C at idle and the ambient temp isn't any higher than in the reviews I have read. The reviews all say 41C should be normal at idle. I can't even get it down to 41 with the fan at 100%. It's probably just variability in production that makes some run hotter than others or else the reviewers are getting really exceptional cards hand picked by AMD for them to write about that run cooler and/or faster than the ones we get.

I know how loud and hot is my card. But my cart isn't a reference card so it won't be so hot.
I've got good case - Lancool K62 by Lian Li - with 5 fans: 2x140 top, 1x120 back, 1x140 + 1x120 front, cables are arranged - air flow is pretty good.
So why is this happening? Why is my card loud and hot? I bought a non-reference card so I expected lower temperatures and more silence than the reference is. I'm disappointed on the whole line of MSI and its products. I hope that my next card will be better.

Don't worry about temps when running those benches unless they're completely out of spec. Regular usage like gaming won't come close to hitting those temps.

If you have this card ->

Then its dumping all hot air inside the case and the cooling CAN be worse then reference.

Have you checked if all fans are pointing the correct direction? because if some are pointed wrong, there might be hot-air-pockets inside the case which cause the exact problems you describe.
Personally, i think the box-coolers are the way to go, just aim a fan blowing right at it, and it will suck the cold air into the card and blow it out of the back.

Maybe try reference next time or check for hot air pockets inside the case.

There are directions on every fan which way it blows air. I would suggest u check them all

Also, to get the hot-air AWAY from that card (as its blowing right inside the case) you need to change your graphic-card fan so its blowing OUT, instead of in, so it will SUCK the hot-air away from the card, you also need atleast another fan blowing cold-air into the case...

Damn those coolers suck tbh :D gogo reference.

The problem is that the problem you had with your MSI card, will most likely still remain the same if you take another card that dumps the hot air into the case... all of those u linked does that (non reference)

OK but...

I haven't got this card because I gave it back to the store.
I'm going to buy a new one. I think about Gigabyte or Sapphire.

I'd try to find one that vents all the air externally instead of allowing it to hang around inside the case raising the ambient temperature. My Sapphire HD6870 is external exhaust and it blows HOT when it's working hard and the fan speed is cranked up.

The Asus Direct CU cards are supposed to have fantastic coolers and a mild overclock. I'd look into one of those, too, but they don't look like they're external exhaust.

Only reference design is external exhaust aka blower design....
Personally, i would NEVER buy a card that is not reference, because if its modified, its gonna be impossible to find a fitting aftermarket cooler if needed. But if its reference, you will have a wide range of different coolers that can be fitted to the card (if needed)
