about 3 days ago my video card died. Then today i turned on my rig and all of the CCFL's popped. Then there was a burning smell. The system has also been unstable when overclocked even at clocks that have been stable before.

Could be. Do you have a Digital Multi Meter? If you do, test the rails and see how stable they are.

Just FYI those Hipers took out a few rigs back about 6-9 months ago. IIRC KennyT started a thread on it and a few chimed in with their hooro stories as well. Altho anything in the PSU realm can blow , just seemed the Hiper went through a bad spell for a bit there!

Let me see if I can find it.

I am looking at a 700w OCZ or a 800w BFG but thanks... If you think it is the PSU then i think i am going to be using my spare rig (lil monster) for about a month and then i won't have a video card will be using onboard when i get the new PSU...:ohwell:

I already have had this PSU replaced 2 times so idk why it wouldn't be it going out again... I am getting it out of there right now just so no one tries to plug it in and power it up i don't want what is left of the rig getting killed.

i had the same problem with my hiper 430w before getting my corsair, was fine and then all of a sudden i smelled burning one day, my pc was on at the time. anyway i powered off and could smell it was coming from the psu (yes i was sniffing my components ) wouldnt power on agan and i got me the corsair instead

heres the link to my thread about my hiper psu dying, with some pics unlucky if it is that mate, thats what swayed me from getting the hiper 580w type r and opting for corsair this time.

i just test my 40gb hdd in another computer its dead... list of parts that have taken a shit in less then a week..
    7900GS
    Hiper 580w Type-R PSU
    40gb IDE HDD

I think it adds up to the PSU taking the things out...BTW there is a bad smell coming out of the PSU... so i would think it is dead...

Get that killer PSU out of there, slap some cuffs on him, and put him on death row for three counts of component murder!

I feel sorry man. Did you check the power pins on the psu? Are they burnt? Once my cheap Eagle 500W did smell bad and it was loose power cable connection. Had a few sparks. Lukily I switched it off and replaced with a better brand PSU. Also crappy xion psu that came with my case caught on fire. Luckily the parts were intact.

    BFG power supplies are good.

And I also had a 580w Hiper that died twice on me. The first time it died and took out the entire breaker for the room it was in.

Don't go with the looks man. Looks cloud your mind:D

For that sake you can get the Ultra PSU from DD. that looks good and Ultra is a stable brand, never had a failure.

How can you not learn your lesson and buy another hiper?! Don't mess around with garbage and get a PCPower&Cooling PSU.
