Is this setup worth $400?

I have a chance to buy the following items:

Yamaha RX-V371
Definitive Technology ProCinema 600 System

The items are 1 year used and are in excellent condition. I'm planning to use this with my PC. What do you guys think? I'm a noob when it comes to audio set-ups so please advise if I would be able to buy a better setup with the money.

few years ago (2009) i got much lower end hardware and it costed about 400$ here. sorry i cant help you too much in my opinion its ok. more knowledable will comment shortly

The RX-v371 is a low end AVR. Doesn't have standby pass-though, doesn't have up scaling. A good deal would be $300. Might bring $400 but I wouldn't pay it

How much would you guys be comfortable with paying for the Definitive Technology ProCinema 600 System... He is willing to sell the items separately... I could buy that and get a different AVR... Or should I just forget about it and use the money to buy a larger monitor for the PC?

if the speakers and sub sound good, are in good condition and have been taken care of they are worth the $300-$400 themselves. I'd offer him $300 at the most just for the speakers. Maybe see if he can take $250.

I'd skip the AVR and get something more up to date and feature rich.

Not much for small speakers or brand although some like them. The A/V is a good brand and best way to get the best for your buck with those is wait until near or just after release of a new version.

The one i have was $600 i waited a little and got it for what they are near asking for ($300) that one which i don't believe is as good even option wise it lacks.

Catch is it might take a while for the sales but keep checking newegg and sooner or later there be a price drop on the higher end for sure.

I'd just look at something in the $300 to $400 range from Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, or Sony.

In that price range you'll find plenty of good AVR's that have more features than that Yamaha you listed.

To be fair; if you don't care about some of the more up to date features and since you would be buying his amp for next to nothing you may still consider it. Depends on what you plan to do with it.
