In 1985, color monitors were quite a bit more expensive than B&W. But I don't recall seeing anything other than color with the Apple II's

IBM did not even offer a color monitor at release of the 5150, which is shown in that video of Windows 1 (TBH I did not see if that was a vanilla 5150 or an XT. The 5151 monitor was available at release, which was black and white. Eventually the 5153 color monitor came out, after IBM's repeated laziness in "HURR WE NEED TO MAKE A BRANDED IBM MONITOR". IIRC, this was a year later. By 1985 I believe that you could acquire a color monitor of the type shown in the Windows 1 video which was a CGA type monitor. In 1985 those were not too bad because they were slightly outdated. I believe the expensive ones were the EGA ones, however I could be wrong as those were a different aspect ratio.

I hadn't heard that date... is it official? There are so many large and small companies that simplay cannot afford to move up from XP. Nevermind the cost of software... the deployment costs alone are a killer, and in this economy?

People were still using 5150's with Windows 1 at the National Weather Service to track storms in 2006, until they finally retired the computers!

And they function just fine for the most part! Speed might or might not improve how things work on the space shuttle. Sure things could be done better, but has someone been able to come up with better code between now and then? Maybe. Proves that man is still horrible at coding and thinking in 1's and 0's, and begs the question, should the computer even think in 1's and 0's? Dunno.

Interestingly, neurons were traditionally thought to be digital "all or nothing"... but that's not the case, they fire at all sorts of different levels.

Those 0's and 1's are the by-product of the hardware used to make the systems. I hope and think that someday, they'll be different shades of binary.

Yep that is what I was implying. However neurons are much slower, but a ton fire, which is why the human brain is faster, or so I am told.

Yes, you are right about the neuron itself either firing or not... it's the stimulus threshold that is variable (I think!).

I stopped watching that vid when he said MS-Dos 5.0 loaded to Dos shell by default.....makes me sad....first thought was of Gorillas
