I've got some questions about overclocking with a FX 8350

I should make a guide for these. First line would say if you own a 970 4+1 board and are trying to overclock an 8 core stop.

I wish I could thank this 100 times. This is the problem I had when I upgraded to my FX 8350, and it seems to be so common....

I see an overclocking FX 8350 thread... and 90% of the time it seems to be related to a motherboard power phase design. However though, it appears the board he has is an 8+2 power phase design, but still doesn't denote the quality of that.

All in all after a lot of tweaking with my FX 8350, I settled at stock voltage @ 4.5Ghz.... Anything more would require an AIO cooler, and honestly I couldn't even tell the difference between 4.0Ghz and 4.5Ghz.

I took a gamble last night and picked up a newAsrock 970A Performance/USB 3.1 on sale for $69 because it looks to have a 8+2 phase and just to play around with using a 8350. I'll report my findings with air and h20.

They call it 990FX chipset because it can handle a FX cpu,8 core and OC

970 has is limit,trust me i had it

Absolute max for me on air is 4.9 after netflix crashes in IE since they dont support waterfox...

What you need to do is disable the AMD APM master mode and Turbo core in bios to stop the clocks from ping ponging, leave the C states and Cool and Quiet on auto they make no difference.

Secondly use Intel Burn Test or another linpac based testing program because prime is so easy most cpus can do it in their sleep without generating errors.

Moar voltage is not usually the fix for AM3 chips that don't OC well I only bumped my core voltage up by 2 steps to get to 4.2 on this 8320

You had to do that?. I must be fortunate that i didnt need to at 4.5 on my 8350.
