They tried: DVD Audio and AAC ("FairPlay"). DVD Audio lost to the venerable CD because of the fact they were easy to copy and rip. AAC lost to MP3 because of the complete lack of DRM and near universal support among devices and software.

Nope. More like, let's expand on it and add a micro transaction store to Origin to buy different weapons, armor, etc.

lol the message announcing the shutdown has a typo. Reminds me of the ngrmadly message after a sudden shutdown of the computer (...Wandows ngrmadly?).

Given how much better Nexon's customer service has gotten lately, I see three things that may come from this.
1: More developing for PC rather than console.
2: Somewhat better customer support and focus.
3: microtranaction shops and more free to play high-end titles.

If you think about it, EA sells games as a one-time transaction, Nexon sells in-game premiums in unlimited quantities. I know I've spent a good $300 on NX cash. Biggest. Waste. Of. Money. Ever. You'll never see me paying to play Dirt or BF or CoD though. (No, I don't obtain them via illicit channels, I simply don't play pay2play games.)

providing they can come up with a good free game, I wouldnt mind so much paying for some stuff in game similar to what TF2 has become.

Only problem I have with TF2 is i paid for the game...now its f2p. they should give players who bought the game 20% off a game of their choice to make up for it

    I got TF2 for like $2.50 or $5. 20% wouldn't get me far...

It probably wouldnt, but its better then getting a free special hat or accessory ingame which means totally f**k all.

20% off is better then that

Complain all you want, but it won't get worse. It may be lateral, but it won't be worse.

I'll tell you what happens at the end: if these asses think I'm going to enter my credit card details on every platform they decide to launch they are clearly overestimating my willingness to aquire their products. In any event, I don't see the financial crisis going anywhere quickly, certainly not in my vicinity, and I imagine that even if they set about launching multiple ventures of this nature, at this particular time, they will soon fold.

I hope this doesn't happen. There are so many roles that EA fufills for gamers, Nexon will just focus on MMO's. nooooooooooo

Game devs will just take their products to Steam, no big deal. ;)

Instead of Aliens and Machine guns now I am going to deal with Flying dragons and Ninjas.

    Great!

    I saved $50.

Only if you want to suck @ every game you play. Otherwise you're going to have to buy the premium items. That is precisely why I hate Nexon.

After what they did to the Battlefield series, what-with CoD-ifying the whole series, removing bots, reducing sandboxiness of each succeeding title, and in general just further consolifying the games, they deserve something like this. I hope our new far east Asian overlords and future owners of all things EA do not fire too many EA folks. Just reduce their salaries close to nothing and make them churn out Maple Story clones forever, and ever, and ever, and ever....

I was unaware FPS games were supposed to be "sandbox". I personally love BF3, I wish it were on Steam, but I have had 0 issues with Origin so I can't complain. If you're the kind of person who needs an open world and bots, odds are you don't really like FPS games anyway, something like Saints Row or GTA sounds more up your alley...

Anything to get rid of EA or change it, I'm up for it ^_^
