lapp it or not?

I can't make up my mind if i want to lap my , well just see specs......

so should i? how much of a drop can i expect if i do it right??

yes..and well some i dropped 5ºC my idle temp was the same my l;oad it what never topped out bealive it or not. so it is worth it

I would say just do it anyway. I actually think it's an enjoyable experience, but I'm into things like that. However, I hear the thermalright is a good cooler right out of the box, so I don't know how much performance difference you will see. It all depends on what kind of shape the base of the heat sink is to begin with.

it was a almost perfect mirror finish, just aluminum instead of the copper underneath it

Hmmm... if it's already a perfect mirror finish I would say don't really bother. Who knows, you might get lucky even if you do, but I probably wouldn't in that case.

thats a coating, i've seen a shot of one cut in half once. You might get much better performace if you sand that bottom layer off and reveal the copper....might take a bit more work than usual

If it's already smooth, then no; if it's already shiny, then heck no. Lapping is for heatsinks that still have obvious machining marks still present. If you can feel ridges with your fingernail, then you want to lap.

hmm, good point! maybe i won't then, it was shiny for sure, and it wasn't rough, it had like one small mark on it.
