So, i did some program cleaning on my girls laptop and now the audio does not work! i went and got the drivers and reinstalled them but to no avail. The speaker icon has a red x in a circle and when i hover over it it says "audio service not running". I havetried to enable, and looked at the devices but it says they are all working. But when i try to enable it says device not installed.

The computer is a Compaq presario cq60 running vista home premium. Maybe i accidentally turned off a service in windows??

    Thanks for any help!

Do you have a Function key that turns off or mutes the speakers?

Sometimes I'll mute my lappy on accident and then just use the function key.

Im not sure, ill have to look when i get home, but would that show that the hardware is not enabled? It happened after i cleaned out some programs and turned off some services, so im thinking those might be connected....?

Thanks Kreij! That link was the ticket, had to do a registry edit on the audiosrv and remove two dependence programs, worked like a champ. Thanks again!
