Hey guys, my sister's looking to buy a new laptop for school, she's not into gaming and all that stuff. She went to best buy to buy this laptop:
    Toshiba Satellite 13.3" Laptop featuring Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 (U400-04W) (http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodd...S10108549&catid=27036&atab=3&logon=&langid=EN)
because a friend of her recommended it saying it was good quality and all, but a sell representative @ best buy told her she'd be better off with this one:
    Gateway 15.4" Laptop featuring Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0GHz (M-6864FX) ( http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10107933&catid=25253&logon=&langid=EN )

The Gateway seems better but I don't know this brand, so I'm not sure if the after-sell services will be good, and are Toshiba laptops reliable?

Keep in mind it's only for school...she also likes the smaller screen on the Toshiba.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

Well personally in the above two choices, Toshiba is a better choice, it is small, convenient for you to take along since she don't need it for gaming. Gateway is a quite a reliable brand also but not that popular as the Toshiba, you can find many laptops from them, if you think it is better you can get it also.

It depends.. The Gateway would be better if she's planning on any form of gaming (even if it's just very light gaming), plus it probably has a bit better sound (this is just a guess though). I would go for the Gateway, but if it's used only for schoolwork then the Toshiba looks really nice.

Go with the Gateway. I bought the 7811FX is its great, I am really happy with gateway lately. I personaly dislike the new Toshiba Satellite, they feel really cheap, more cheaper feeling than gateway.

There isn't much difference between the two performance wise. If she's going to be using it for school, either of these should be fine.

Go with the Gateway, Toshiba's have a higher failure rate (from what I've experienced with repairing them). Also, a 13.3" is a pain to look at while doing papers and such.
