Intel will release its discrete graphics processor codenamed "Larrabee". In an industry that's pretty-much governed by NVIDIA and AMD, Intel looks for its slice of the pie. The Larrabee incorporates parallelism brought about by x86 processing elements. It is not far sighted to assume that Larrabee will face stiff competition from both NVIDIA and AMD, with both having graphics technologies two generations advanced from what they are now. NVIDIA already raised questions about the credibility of Larrabee in a 2010 setting. On Intel's side, it has to show the industry what its new product is capable of these would be using technology demos and games that would exploit Larrabee in other words, unleash the potential of the product. One such title is being developed by Offset, a game production house acquired by Intel this February last having access to its game developer staff and its own game engine.

The first game, based on that engine titled Project Offset is in the works. A video leaked on YouTube earlier showed its gameplay and is said to have received praise for its visuals. As far as implementation of this engine in the production of other titles that serve as "launch vehicles" for Larrabee go, it's known that the engine has been licensed by Red5 Studios. For now, concept art of the engine's capabilities has been released.

The game looks very very good, Im not so sure that Intel has what it takes to keep up with NV and ATI.
If you think about it, each time they come out with a new card, GTX280 for example, Im 90% sure the GTX360/380 has already been planed and is in a working sample stage.

So if say Intel hits the market with its card that matches say the GTX380, well NV has the GTX400 already in the works and is probly 6months from releasing it, and Intel is just getting up and runing no way they are able to compete for atleast the first 6months to a year.
Now the problem I see is that unless they can do some thing like make them cheap to compete on that level then they wont have enough money coming in to keep the project afloat.

This is just my random thoughts, in know way do I know any thing about what they do or do not have.

From the looks of that trailer, I'll be adding that game to my short buy list...Look's sweet!

As for Larrabee, sounds interesting, but I doubt it will take the performance crown away from ATi/Nvidia. Surprise me Intel:)

Edit: Here is sweet video that shows of the engine in Project Offset...would this be running on a Larrabee?

The architecture and specifications for the geforce GT300 and Radeon HD5000 and HD6000 series are closed, expect the Radeon 5870 to be released next year and the GT360/80 to be released in winter.

Concept art and a game play video to show what a non-existent video accelerator is capable of....

Cmon intel, this is more pathetic than your countless paper launches. At least those were only 6 months in advance. This is 2 yrs!

Honestly, what's the point of a Canadian youtube URL? I can understand other countries with a different national language having a different youtube URL, but the Canada one is still English language . . . Anyways, the game looks like it would be fun, even though I don't think the characters look realistic enough. The ogre thing looks kinda cartoony in the face, and the player character has some skinny-looking arms.

As for Larrabee, I don't see how any of these videos are related to what it can do, since as others have mentioned, it's non-existent.

lol that is really funny. I also kinda dislike having multiple ebay url's. I think it would be nice if language was a preference that it saved with a cookie or in your account preferences. And when searching you could set it to display only items listed in your country, all countries, or any listing that says it ships to your country. And then have it automatically translate foreign listings.

back on topic, I really want to play that game. However, I don't think it's technically the first "epic fantasy fps" or whatever. The Elder Scrolls series can be considered fantasy rpg/fps, and pretty much any fantasy game with a first-person view and any ranged weapons can be considered an fps, based on their claim. The only thing I saw in that game that makes it "fps" is the crossbow.

I could care less if it was the first, it looks freaking bomb...especially with the dragons and shit:D

They are seeing themselves as the first epic fantasy fps with good co-op action or something.

Edit: This guy pretty much summed it up, "The original game creators wanted a game that was an epic fantasy game, that you could play coop with friends in. A D&D like world with friends. And no other games were making that. So they started to make this game. Basically, I'm say that the reason reason for them making this game was to make a multiplayer game in a fantasy world."

Seriously though, think how many other games you've heard devs say almost the exact same thing about? There's plenty of games that fit that description even better than this game. Say, for instance, Dungeons and Dragons Online? Neverwinter Nights? etc.

Don't get me wrong though, I think the game looks baller and I want to play it. :rockout:

oh wow, I've never even heard of it before

Of course, I typically don't follow gaming news too much, except for hardware and the actual releases. Don't pay much attention to development unless somebody tells me about something or it gets hyped enough for me to notice.

Graphics are alright but I doubt I'll ever play this game.

Post seems more like it's about the game than it is Larrabee. Nothing new about Larrabee mentioned but there is the mention of the upcoming game which is far more interesting.

News is that Larrabee already has a game engine optimised for it and there are two publishers (Offset and Red5) already holding its licenses.
