Talks are starting about is it time for successor of xbox360 and PS3 and Lenovo are going to try and match xbox 360. I can`t imagine this going well for Lenovo knowing that they are no Nintendo.

if lenovo is willing to sink a few billion $ into it they can sure establish themselves as a new player in 4-6 years.
they could go with a pc based approach - put a pc into a console case, give users a controller and hdmi out, some steam-like easy to use software

exactly - if they have any hope of succeeding they can NOT be their own proprietary format, they will have to borrow on an existing one. which is fine with me :)

true - and they can't iron it out enough to have it considered as smooth a play as a console - so there is def more to it. maybe their own linux based os that only devotes resources to games? but allows it to execute intel x86 code like wine?

no matter what , i like it. it's a good thing to see that (even if they fail) someone is still willing to compete with what we take for granted as THE console companies. Gives me hope for more innovation in the future :)

if all the wine boys cant manage to get directx emulation working properly in wine to play latest titles without performance loss vs. windows then lenovo sure can't do it. and there's no point in linux for gaming anyway. lenovo must get those microsoft oem windows licenses dirt cheap anyway. i could imagine some kind of windows embedded system for what you describe, might still be easier to use normal desktop windows and put a lenovo console ui into autostart :)

see i didn't even think of that , but you're totally right i believe. regardless how it turns out , it is very interesting and NOT something I thought I'd see anytime soon. I for one would be willing to get another game system, provided it has some unique advantages... and i'm no stranger to emergent tech so i'll beta test :)

the games will have to look better and run faster than the xbox or ps3 for this to be a viable product. perhaps embedded linux with games designed for opengl. that could work.

xbox could win all its developers because the programming model is basically the same as for windows using directx

true, but sony managed to win developers with the PS3 and that is PPC architecture. i am guessing lenovo has something up its sleeve.

really though - and it is quite obvious if you could fit some more technical mmos into a console shell - wow... you would make a killing. that makes a ton of sense mussels... good thought :)

if they make it PC and console (ebox) compatible and give the console some advantages (cheaper subscrpitions?) then it could take off.

If Leno makes another console using MS's OS i don't think they will able to compete with Xbox.

in which case it will be more expensive than something you could build on your own.

Considering how much Blizzard made selling a virtual horse.

Image how much money Valve could make with a Steam console. :twitch:

Unless they can strike a deal with one of the 3 big companies, they hardly have a chance. Remember when Nokia tried with the N-Gage? That was a flop.

I like the name, doesn't sound too familiar, their best selling game might be Telecommunication of Duty...

Would be nice to see a 3rd wheel in the big ring again, we'll see what they can come up with.
