Lenovo warranties - anyone know the details?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I couldn't see a more suitable one.

I'm going to buy a Lenovo but their website is very short on warranty details. The included option is something called "base warranty". There is no explanation as to what this means. If I wish, I can purchase something called one- or two-year "mail-in" warranty. I guess this means I mail the item to them, but again there's no details as to by what means, or who pays for it.

Can anyone enlighten me where Lenovo can't!?

Thanks in advance

I have a lenovo, too, from what I understand "base warranty" it is free and it is the legal warranty for electronics for each country(each country may have anothers laws about that), like for UE it is 2years, for UAE it is 1 year, this base have some requirements described in the law of that country; but if you need more protection/safe you can choose to pay more to have that, like to have the service guy at your home/office in max 24hrs if something it is broken...

Thanks. No closer to knowing what a mail-in warranty is, or who pays for the mailing, though!

Why don't just send a e-mail to the store from where you will buy it?

No one sells it, at least in the UK. I'd be buying from Lenovo directly.

Hang on. From that definition, the one-year mail-in warranty sounds like a standard, nothing-extra warranty. But if so, what's the difference between that and the "base warranty", which IS the standard warranty?

Just in case anyone has experience of Lenovo warranties. I've asked on the Lenovo forums, too, but no response so far.

I had a Lenovo Y470 before that I had to RMA because it had a defective RAM slot. I was given 1 year shop warranty (If it had any defects I just return it to the shop I bought it from) and another extra 1 year warranty from Lenovo (I had to ship it to a Lenovo service center for repairs/replacement). I only noticed the defect approximately 1 1/2 years after purchase when I decided to add another 4gb of RAM. I had to pay for shipping to the Lenovo Service center but they shouldered the return shipping. Luckily we have a service center here in the Philippines so shipping cost was minimal. I received the unit 2 weeks after I sent it in. That's excellent service for me based on experience my friends have had with Asus, Acer, and HP. Shortest time they received a replacement/repaired unit was 2 months. I don't know how warranties are handled in your area but that was my experience with Lenovo. If I ever buy a laptop again, It'd be another Lenovo. :)
