Let be honest...this gen of consoles was terrible

The 360 is an awesome console, but it was designed badly. At least, most of the time, people with dodgy consoles are covered by the 3 year extended warranty (and those that actually pay for repairs by MS are stupid and dont know how to 'work the system' ;) )

I think the PS3 is a great console also and amazing value for money (because of the BD playback and free online gaming) but it isnt without fault ie the 'Yellow Light Of Death'.

The only current gen console I dont think deserves praise is the Wii. Yeah it has the Wiimote, big deal, if I wanted to jump around waving my arms like a twat I would just get drunk :)

Unlike the other 2, the Wii's hardware is terrible because its a glorified GameCube and its a console aimed at bored housewives and very young children. Some will argue that some of the games are fun, but I want it all from a console, great graphics and gameplay (and before some of you say graphics isnt everything......think about that the next time you buy an highend graphics card ;) )

GOAT console = Super Nintendo!

I just want a console like the sega megadrive and ps2 where i can just sit on my ass on the sofa and play games for 2-4hours straight without worrying of much overheating and some stupid faults.
I'm still happy about my 360 elite which survived for 2 years now and still going..i'm on my first 360 elite still and it hasn't died on me yet i'm happy with it

Postal 3 has a December release date? Interesting...for people who loved the mindless video game that P2 was, like me

Although this generation of consoles lacks the originality that earlier generations had, that doesn't mean they didn't improve and innovate on more than a several concepts. Like mentioned earlier, the Wii's party-style gameplay(with peripherals up the assss), the 360's ability to play against other 360 owners(Xbox Live has truly innovated the online sector of console gaming), and PS3's Blu-Ray capability coupled with it's revolutionary Cell processor have all contributed to this generations new and fresh ideas & concepts. This makes progress move forward in a positive way, but IMO I think games should be developed with gameplay/storytelling in mind like they were in the Nintendo/Genesis/SNES days.

Wait, one thing that this generation has done better is racing games. I do have to give them that.

I have to agree with u there, racing games back in the old days compared to now just sucked lol (apart from Rock and Roll racing on the snes it RULES :rockout:)

PS3 great system, bit expensive, lacking in the games, blue ray player, Has potential in the future.
Xbox 360 good range of games, priced well, way to big of a fail rate, just buy a PC.
Nintendo Wii, priced well, good party games, lacking in grunt, all ages can play it, only system thats made a profit.

Thats how i see the latest gen of consoles.

I think if you look in the past few generations, they have all had similar problems.

Go back 2 Generations:

We have the Seag Saturn, with it's outragous prices, and poor game library.
We have N64, with its poor graphics, childish games, and "inovative" controller.
We have Sony Playstation with it's crappy lasers killing consoles(any remember openning the sucker up and adjusting the laser POTs to fix it?)

Go back 1 Generation:

We have Gamecube, with a few fun games, but most childish. A more standard controller, but still lackluster graphics.
We have Xbox with very few entertaining games, but they had Halo to keep it going. And Halo was only a success because it was really the only FPS on consoles that was a serious franchise and had decent multiplayer. Huge controllers that could kill a cat if it fell off the couch.
We have the PS2, which had one of the best libraries of all time, which is why it is the only console from this generation still being produced and sold. But again had reliability issues caused by cheap lasers(anyone remember DREs?).

You can probably look at any console generation and find similar flaws. Hell, I can go all the way back to the NES with its cartridge reading problems. You could blow in those things until you were blue, and they still wouldn't work sometimes....

its not that they are bad its just that the dissapointment factor is increasing in my opinion, I'm gonna be honest,

I love the ps3 but theres not that many games available and with every console released sony kills features that it originally had so its kind of like your not getting what you were originally getting, but it is reliable whereas the ps2 did have laser problems.

with the 360 you have the opposite problem, its NOT reliable its NOT, it has good games library where as the ps3 dosen't but the hardware is ridiculously priced on everything except consoles and controllers, for example, microsoft sells the 120GB hdd for 100 dollars more than what the hdd itself is worth.

with the wii you have a gamecube with motion control, so im not even gonna classify it as part of this gen.

I can only say that I wish sega remained in the console business, when I first saw the dreamcast I was wow'd then found out that you could simply burn games onto cdr and I knew from that point this console was doomed.

with this gen its more like "pick your poison" then deal with it, its been similar with most gens though.

Benchmark Scores Meh benchmarks.
Consoles always have their problems, the best thing is to wait for them to be sorted out and the price to drop. That way you get the best games, and the bugs gone for cheap.

PS1 - Faulty CD drives. I have a rare first gen one that still works
N64 - Cartridge slots loose their spring and the game won't make contact. (Same for NES and SNES)
Dreamcast - Faulty GD-Roms that wound up slicing people open because the cd brake didn't work
Xbox - Faulty DVD Roms led to dirty disc errors

All of those had serious issues and no warranty to back em up.

PS1 lol. Heat from the transformer was the issue for mine and added a fan to keep it cooler.

Our youngest still play the N64 has this problem to day but it still works if you blow on the cartridges haha. Ones in the UK there fuses used to blow in them.

Deamcast never bothered with one.

Xbox still have a working and still being used. But the player is just heat sh*t.

What about the specrum\Amstrad 128k when they added the tape deck to it yet another peice of shit but most of the time adjusting the heads would fix your issue for a game or 2 then you would have to adjust them again.

In the end they all have there issue's but at least SONY's PS3 issue is mainly due to bone idle game makers these days. From my experience only ones i've never had a issue with was the mega drive but hated the games for it lol.

The one i liked most was the Specrum 128k when it used to be owned by them and did not have the tape deck attached to it ( used to love heli sims on it ha ).

PS3 seems like a good console if people would get of there fat asses and make more for it after all they are getting payed right. The fail rate alone put me of the 360 but there's a bunch of other things that did too like no Blu ray drive bad placement of connections on the back of the unit and pay to play online. How ever PS3 is far from fault like the rip off controllers that you cannot replace the batteries too and a lack of OTHER designs as SONY controller i find is a load of crap compared to the 360's.

Sony encourages you to switch out the PS3 controller battery, it even tells you how to do it in the manual that comes with the PS3, as well as the Hard drive.

The PS1 was the first (and last) console I ever had, so I really can't comment much on the other consoles (besides PS2 which I've been able to play with more or less).

Don't forget the GREAT backwards compatibility with PS1 games. I still have about 5/6 PS1 games that work perfectly on my PS2 slim. Love that damn thing :D

You're missing GRID and DIRT and Most Wanted. My point was, racing games, in general, steadily improve with each new generation. Wasn't referring to any franchises in particular, and there will always be franchises that are an exception.

Forgot about those, I haven't got much GRID time in, but that def was great, and so was DIRT, but for it's time Colin McRae matched DIRT and really advanced rally games. But Most Wanted was out for PS2. So I'm still sticking to the PS1 having the best racing, since I forgot about Collin McRae.

I do agree they improve, it's a pretty basic concept, so really it's just about getting realistic enough physics, but enough for it to still be a game, problem I'm seeing with PS2 and PS3 is turn around times on some of these racing titles is starting to take too long. I been itching for a few of the upcoming racing games for a long time. When GT5 lands I might just take a week off work work :p

Best console of all time the original Gameboy, think about that one:cool:

They did change the old xbox controller to a better one so at least the did something a little to late tho i think. My old ps1 had many problems, my N64 not one problem. Graphics wise i liked the N64 better then the jagged edged ps1 but hey i think thats just personal preference. People forget how shit the MegaCD and 32x where totaly balls.

The current gen is okay but its nothing different to the last gen, PS2 and Xbox same type of market and games as the PS3 and xbox 360.

PS3
The free online on the PS3 is a bit shit, if youve had good luck with it then good for you but its not like that for everyone else.
Also has a small hardware issue, yes its a small amount of users but it is there.
Saturn-itis, to hard to program for, Saturn had more than 1 cpu and developers had never developed for a system like that, the PS3 problem is that its just a bunch of logic units that do specific tasks so you cant use one to give extra processing to another task the memory is also like 256mb for graphics 256mb for cpu on xbox its shared so you can choose how much ram you actually need plus it has a tiny amount of dedicated memory for AA.
Library of titles is far to similar to the 360 to make it that different.

Xbox 360
Cooling issues, if they just used a decent cooling system maybe more fans but ones with more airflow but quieter, a better system than xclamps a decent flat heatsink not perfect but decent i mean ive seen heatsinks that looked like pure iron ore.
Melting solder on the motherboard, causing chips to become loose and glitchup or not work at all.
DVD drives scratch disks, depending on model.
Many exclusives end up on pc or are released same time on pc.

Wii
Hardly any hardware issues.
Most successful console of at least this gen.
Crap third party titles.
Many games are just straight PS2 ports.
Graphics are lacking (effects things like atmosphere).
No real system to add friends or players, friends codes suck big time.

I agree this generation of consoles was all wrong for the reasons you gave:
Wii: too few titles
XB360: high failure rate
PS3: priority was in hardware, not entertainment

Sony encourages you to switch out the PS3 controller battery, it even tells you how to do it in the manual that comes with the PS3, as well as the Hard drive.

NO, as i understand the manual they tell you how to take the battery out for safe disposal reasons only as i have not yet seen a battery for sale for their controller made by them.

A link to were you can get the batteries ?.

You can get them directly from Sony. They replace the batteries for free. Originally, they said they would provide free replacements for dead controllers. They later changed that after launch, and will only provide free replacement battery packs for the controllers, you have to replace them yourself. The instructions in the manual were place there only for how to remove the battery for disposal. However, if you have a dead PS3 controller, and call sony, they will replace the battery pack for free, and the include instructions on how to replace the battery with the new pack. I've done it with the original SIX AXIS that came with my 60GB console.

Its not that bad, but its not like what they used to be.

They are all bad in some ways, but overall they are just gaming machines. As a person who started out gaming on Consoles, i could never dismiss them. They have some fantastic games that you just can't get on PC.
