    hey guys.

I have had this for over a year and I have never had any issues with it.

But lately I have realised that half the time I put a disk in..it does not get picked up :wtf:

I currently have Windows XP SP3 and not Windows Vista installed anymore.

But what I have is this:
LG 20x Internal Super Multi DVD Rewriter.

It has always worked fine for me..but I have no idea what coudl have caused it to not work properly anymore??
    Anyone got any ideas??

Installed any new games recently with securerom/starforce? Did the problem occur AFTER you burned? And was it a bad burn?

If the above, then your drive may be damaged.

What CDs isnt it picking up? Your own burned CDs, music CDs, install DVDs? Need to explain a bit more...

Otherwise, perhaps your drive is dying. Dont trust any new burns you do with it.

Sorry for the tricky news. But TBH the isnt much you can do other than reflash the latest BIOS and hope that improves things.

Well...I can't really remember what happened that made it messed up..

But it appears to read my burned CDs and DVDs fine...it won't run a CD that came with the DVD-ROM..it won't read my Windows XP disk either!

It runs the games fine tho which is great!!

    Does that help?

Try cleaning it...or cleaning the disks or both.

Issues like that can be a good sign that the drive has neared the end of it's life. DVD burners are so unbelievably cheap these days, and I'm sure the quality of components and durability just isn't what they used to be.

To ensure piece of mind, you may end up having to cough up $30 for a new drive. Probably the way to go, so you don't have to worry about this and that CD/DVD not working properly, or being stuck with coasters, when burning.

Try updating the firmware made my DVD writer( Lite-on) to start reading DVD's again.
Get the latest firmware from the LG website. Be careful though if the flashing goes wrong the drive is lost.
