Then your 26inch monitor is bad

The resolution you set for an application is not the real resolution modification , it just means size , you're not affecting anything physically , everything would just look larger, that's about it.

It might be bad, but it's a shitload better than many other LCD's I've seen.
And what are you saying about resolution?

You guys need to get something into your heads, and that's HDTV's can utterly shat over the best PC LCD, mainly because of vastly superior panels and black levels, but image quality is also improved with SIZE, so despite owning a 26in 1920x1200 8 bit LCD, my 37in 1080p Samsung HDTV slays it for everything except sharp text, but that's monumentally overrated, as the most important aspects are visibility and readability.

It's a shame many of the 26in 1080p HDTV's seem to have disappeared, as they'd make great PC monitors, though u need a game mode for gaming and some don't have them.

Just like Mussels said, this is wrong. Your 26" LCD is probably not a true 8bit. It's probably a 6bit dithered TN-film, and total garbage. What model do you have?

And most TV's are VA of some sort, and a lot of IPS these days for the better response times. They don't seem to have a lot of problems with blacks, and neither does my HP LP2475w once calibrated.

And size does not improve image quality. Maintaining the same resolution while increasing size reduces image quality at the same viewing distance.

Guys don't make me laugh...I have a 8 bit Acer 26in I bought 3 yrs ago, I bought it because it compared favourably against the DELL27 but was much cheaper.
As for image quality degrading, that depends, my 26in slayed my old 19in CRT where I couldn't always tell the diff between SD and HD as it was too SMALL.

Why are PC forumers seemingly obsessed with sharp text...isn't visibility and readability more important, and even on my 26, I have to zoom plenty of text, so imagine a 27in with 1440p.....and there's more to PC use than just text, as I said, everything looks better on my 37, and yes I have to alter my viewing distance so it's not always appropriate for work spaces, but at home it might be.

if you have to zoom to make out text, then your problem is your eyesight - not your screen.

I defitnitely find high res small screen preferable over high res HOOOGE screen.

Pixel density is what makes things look smooth and awesome, I hate to say it but ( see iphone 4 screen for example, everything is nice n smooth and easily readable)

I've got very good eyesight, but some text is puny as.
Also, people constantly complain about the dot pitch of these 1440-1600p LCD, so I'm not the only one.

What model Acer? I bet it is not a true 8 bit panel. I bet it is Tn-Film with 8bit dithering. Looks like ass compared to IPS or VA.

And I have an HP2475w 1920x1200 24" and have also test driven a 27" 2650x1440 iMac (as both a stand alone computer and as a monitor on my PC), and I do not have to zoom any text anywhere. Are you computing form 10 ft away or something?

The problem is you, not the monitors.

It is simple fact that you get a sharper, clearer image from a smaller screen when all else is equal. You can laugh all you want, you would still be wrong.

i did some quick measurements.

i use my 24" at 1920x1080 at about a meter away (leaning back in my awesome chair) and have zero problems reading the text on TPU. reaching the keyboard is harder than reading anything.
