I know nothing about routers in terms of performance I remember buying a Blekin with N range or something like that, since i moved out to college I decided to let me parents keep it, and I took an old linksys router...and this router keeps disconnecting me over and over and over again

Do you need "n", or are you ok with just "g"? If g is enough, then my tip would be to go for a router compatible with DD-WRT. Pick something up cheap off ebay, and run DD-WRT, and I'm sure you will be more than happy.

IF however you need to shift massive files within a LAN setup, you need an n access point or bridge.
