    I am currently running a opteron 144 @2.88 with a Akasa33 cooler.
And now i think its about time to change to dual core :)

I have recently bought a Arctic freezer pro and was thinking of just changing the cooler, but i thought why i was there i might aswell change the CPU too.

So what do you guys think would be the best cpu change?
I would be using it mostly for gaming, and my budget is not to great, but reasonable.

Also maybe a stupid ? but could i use DDR2 in my motherboard?

    :toast:

The only way you could use DDR2 is if you uppgraded to AM2, which depending on how much memory you want could set you back quite a bit, what kind of budget are you looking at?

I was thinking of doing a whole upgrade, CPU,MB,Ram and using my original HD psu etc.....

The reason why i need to upgrade the cpu on this first is so the wife could have this combo and then she will let me upgrade with another lot.:D
My budget would be about £300 but maybe able to push it a little more.

    Ok, few more questions.

    Dual-core?
Do you want an SLi, CF or standard motherboard?
And how much memory are you looking for?

Definatly dual core, maybe E6420 (much cheaper at the mo) or 6000+
Motherboards are the things i get stuck on as i am not much of an overclocker, not sure about CF or Sli but the 8800gts is at a vg price.
As for ram Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator looks tempting too with the cooler:)
And there you go budget is just blown:D

maybe there are other componets that are just as good as the above but cheaper, so i will still have enough to get a cpu for this one.

I think he would want duel core, 2 gigs, single pci slot (to save a few bucks.. unless he goes amd x2 than he could get a good 2pci-e board for cheap prob).

How about a E6400 and 965P-DS3 mobo? Single PCIe, Tons of features, And a great price point ATM.... so far as RAM goes.. Your can outfit this rig with some serious stuff or on the cheap, and either way its fast...
