come on fellas im an auto tech here learnin to work on computers more now, if you want a good car that the engine will outlast the body, sorry to say but get a 4-cylinder honda or a GM that has the 3800 series II engine, the MOST reliable engine in the states. I got a 84 Pontiac Fiero with 125,000K on engine and tranny and goin strong made it to and from Indianapolis to fremont, ohio 3 times! on one tank of gas and thats about 250 miles, reliable? i think so. and dont start by saying "they catch fire!" only one I EVER senn has out of the thousands iv seen and worked on.

My escort GT has done columbus->chicago non stop twice (and gets me a half hour to work every day!) and its just hitting 100k miles... it has no third gear, syncro for 4th is almost gone, 2nd is sticky, and 5th is a bit picky.

Its reliable too.

Being 16 doesnt entitle you FREE stuff does it? You have to learn how to work for it.

Very true.. looking for a card thats still viably used for a low end gaming rig for free will be rather hard to stumble upon...

But I always tried those free games in diablo II... and still managed to make out pretty well sometimes.

5 speed? I need to do it... considering doing it myself.

I am not however, a mechanic. Hopefully my uncle will help.

Manualtrannys are the easiest. you dont have to worry about belts/chains, clutch plates, steel plates or planetary gear sets, just a shaft, gears and synchros for the most part. ive rebuilt a 5speed muncie in about 5 hours. and thats doing the measuring for the specs and cleaned all parts.

WHile I guess this is way OT, I have nothing better to do.

My internet gateway is timing out on sites other than TPU and digg... :banghead:

I was considering a 6 speed... but probably after adding a turbo and upgrading a few other components...

Its safe to assume I'd have to find new parts, if my syncro's aren't working right anymore, right?

Or is it just an alignment issue? :)

*going to read up on trannys a bit later*

synchros are only soft brass and designed to wear so 9 times out of 10 its the synchros, if shifting problems occur in certain gears more than likley the synchros are bad

and truthfully upgrade your tranny first before engine upgrades, you will have more luck in the long run

Yeah, I was wanting to upgrade it for a 6th gear for long highway driving to lower my rpm... 3500 @ 70mph is too high for me

However, I want the engine upgrades because this sucker needs some horsepower.. It wont take me above 127

Problem with the turbo really, is the lack of Mazda BP engine turbos... Everyone sells rice-stang and V8 turbos..

Which just makes me wanna dig up a porshe V6 to swap into it..

im pretty sure a ford 2.5L or duratec 3.0L will fit in. what year is it? and both can be turboed very easily.

yea I think the biggest Duratec you can put in is a 2.0L 4-Cyl nice engines but maybe with a little extra fabricating you can squeeze in the 2.5L 6Cyl. but is a bit more expensive to do that. and the 2.0L is turboed easily and is Mazda. Google Duratec 2.0L turbo and get tons of results. just take a Duratec 2.0L or 2.3L out of a 2003 Focus and be set
