Hi again ;)

I don't want to create a new thread so I'll ask here. I've been having random reboots every 1-3 days since I've installed the sound card, usually that's during games as far as I remember. PC just reboots, no bsods or errors. Any ideas guys?

I think it's when I run a game and have winamp playing songs in background too.

It's worth it!

The Xonar is a sick card, I have 2 of them, the D2.

When it comes to sound cards I have a few companies I'll buy from.
HT Omega, EMU *Creative Professional if you may*, Asus, Auzentech and lastly creative who doesn't make much I'm interested in anymore the only thing they had going for them was EAX and like it was said it's dying out so that's useless to me.

I demand high sound quality, a little lack of amplifier power I can deal with, I use external amps anyways.

If you're a gamer, then X-Fi is still the best choice. I have Xonar Essence STX and sound quality is sick. But ASUS's stupid GX mode that was suppose to enable hardware sound under Vista never ever worked right. All the games crashed sooner or later with Xonar's module in the error description.
So thats a no go. Without it, you can forget about EAX in even the oldest games, effects are often all messed up, sounds missing, sounds looping and getting stuck etc. But when it does work, it sounds great. And it wouldn't hurt if ASUS updated damn drivers a bit more often. Last update was in February 2009. And that is just as awful as Creative's offering...

For music, nothing beats Essence STX + Foobar2k + ASIO Output

To be fair at least Asus drivers aren't pure bloatware...
I can agree though for games the card is meh if you want more than stereo sound.

As for the nothing beats STX + Foobar2k + ASIO... Sorry I have to do it..

Lots beats it, like digital output to external DAC, into high end reference amp, into high end speakers/phones whatever you may :)

But TBH, yes ASIO drivers are where it's at.

I kept getting PC restarts.

I moved my sound card to another PCI slot and changed the sampling rate from 96KHz to 44.1KHz. I hope one the the two solves my problems :/

People often mis-understand sample rates... For instance CD Audio is 44.1khz, running a higher sampling rate doesn't really do anything when listening to a CD. A DVD or something eh, now we are getting somewhere but it's still pretty minimal.

Restarts don't sound too great though, hopefully you didn't get a bad card :(

Getting frustrating here. I get crashes eveb more often now. My PC just reboots.
I've reinstalled drivers for all my hardware.

I don't know where to start troubleshooting, I've even tried clocking back my CPU to it's normal 2,8Ghz speed.

I may have to try and go back to onboard sound for like 3 days and see if it crashes then :banghead:

Whoever is running external DAC's that are higher end than the ones on soundcard are probably nt outputting sound from PC to amp in the first place. So Essence STX with analog connection to decent speakers is certanly the best you can get right now.
