Asus Rampage IV Extreme

Corsair HX850 W

POV GTX 680 TGT Ultra Charged (4GB) Want to chnage GPU to any new graphic card maximum budget
30,000 INR (Or 500 $ at max)

Got some options such as
Zotax GTX 970 4GB
MSI GTX 970 4GB
MSI r9 290x 4GB

All of above are almost same in price.

I was also going through news and got to listen about r9 300 Series (r9 390 may be)

1st- Do I need to upgrade my PSU to upgrade GC (Currently Corsair HX850 W)
2nd- would it be worth waiting for r9 300 series or 290x or gtx 970 is ok to go with (as much I know both of them supports Dx 11.1 , Dx 12).

Open for suggestions.

Why not the Asus GTX 970 Strix?

ur psu will be fine, specs for stock GTX 680 and 970 shows the GTX 970 requires 50watt less watt then a GTX 680.

Honestly, unless you are really in desperate need of a new GPU, why not wait till AMD's next release? You are curious about what R9 390 and 390x might have to offer, so you should wait and then make overall decision.

I would just wait if I was you, you have a decent GPU currently and honestly you will get a difference with any of the cards listed but you may see something you like once the R9 390/X hit the market. On top of that the prices will likely go down on other video cards and you will also get a much wider variety of choices for you at your price point.

Your PSU is plenty for any single GPU out there and everything in your rig overclocked as well and still plenty of room to spare. If you are going to stay with 1080p then probably a GTX 970 or R9 290x is plenty even with demanding games. If you think that you may upgrade your monitor to 1440p or more during the next couple of years then I would wait to see what AMD brings with the 390/390x and what Nvidia brings with the 980 Ti. Either way, as GhostRyder pointed out, the prices of the current cards should drop when AMD/Nvidia bring out their high end offerings.

Thank you guys, My self I was looking for some news and some more website, and came to think that its better to stay with current GPU, and wait for the R9 390X...
and no doubt after new GC the prices for current flagships will go down...
Thank you guys...that PSU was a issue (as I thought) but now I am good....

If you were going to get an nVidia card, I would recommend that it be an EVGA card; you seem to be a performance enthusiast and power-user, and in light f that, EVGA is one of the only brands (the only brand that I know of, but update me if I'm wrong here) that doesn't void your warranty for removing the stock heatsink and fan setup in favor of aftermarket cooling methods such as liquid cooling. Just a thought.

Since you have a 4GB card already - I might suggest going with another 4GB 680 nabbed off ebay or similar. 680SLi will still provide PLENTY of performance upto 1440p - Kinda overkill for 1080p but i was running 2 680s in 1080p so I cant really say anything against it. the 850w PSU would be fine for 680 Sli.

the negatives are, your pc does drink more juice. and runs a little hotter. you might run into some SLi related issues with games e.g. microstutter or no SLi profile etc etc but I have been running SLi for over 2 years and i have rarely encountered an issue and when i do its usually down to new games not having an SLi profile.

This solution also presents the best bang for your buck and will give you somewhere around the performance of a Nvidia Titan

See my question post I have already added 970 (from msi and all)....

are you sure that on ebay you cant find a good priced gtx 980? or even a r9 295x2 ?

I may get that..but after different news and posts from TPU (and no doubt after comments of different members) I am thinking to wait for 390x Release...by means of which either I will get 390x or I will see some more drop in prices of current flagships... I think I am on right path :-D...What you suggest...??

I think in near future we will be getting more of Dx12 based games...apart from that no doubt 680 is still running very nice but when I play games like Unity I feel that some where I need more....
No, I am not complaining about 680 (it is still a beast for 1080- I dnt have any idea about 1440 for now) but yes market is updating and some where it feels that I need more.....

@saknid, I couldn't tell in your last post if DX12 games coming in he future is why you said that aside from DX12 the 680 is still running nice. It seems you were saying 680 would be lacking by not being able to play DX12 games. But IIRC, Microsoft said all High-end Kepler in addition to Maxwell will be able to do Direct X 12, so it looks like you'll be ok without upgrading, if you just want to SLI that card.

Ok, you are right no doubt, but I did not see any specific price drop in gtx 680 (it is still going around 36K INR http://www.snapdeal.com/product/zotac-geforce-gtx-680-2gb/217163) so if I would go for a new gtx 680 then better to sell my current one and after adding some little cash I can buy a new 295x or may something with same standard and performance.....while on the other hand I am still waiting for r9 390x (or series) and then will look again on the price list who knows then I will go for a gtx 680 SLI... :)

Point me if my plan is not good enough... :-D

I think you should wait if you are not in hurry for the 390x and see how the prices are going to change because you can find some deals too.
For example if could have the money i would have buyed 2 r9 290 and do crossfire because is the stock cooler model sometimes is at 200€ or so .
After that you can buy for 40 € an arctic cooler for better temps or if you find a good deal 2 gtx 970 or one 980 but you need luck too XD

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
For 1000nir more I would get that 970 I linked
why .... a 290/290x is still close to a 970 in actual game performance and ... the small performance difference does not warrant a premium of 1000nir (well you can use the power consumption argument i reckon ... but still)

[/sarcastic joke] not mentioning with a 290/290x you have 4 real gb vRAM in the deal[/sarcastic joke end]
(i know i know ... true brand loyalty does not take brands lies in account ... sorry for that :D on a second thought ... i am glad i did take a cheap 290 for, i play a heavily modded Skyrim sometime ...)

(also that remember me that i found a 980 seller for 360chf ... which is exactly the price of the cheapest 970 where i am, but still around 2 time what i paid for my 290)

but with the upcoming 980Ti and 3XX/390X i would not upgrade now, specially as i have a 290 or even if i had a 680/770/780/780Ti, a 680 is still a damn fine card.

1000 INR is 15 euros. I am thinking more from the thermal aspects than power consumption because i imagine electricity is cheap in india but it's a warm country.

You guys seem to be forgetting that he is from india where the prices are a bit different. looking at thee 2 websites I see sellers charge a hefty premium for the top level cards. I mean that 970 is 400 euros and 780 is even more expensive. I normally would agree that waiting for the new card is wise but i am not sure that prices will change for him

See my question post I have already added 970 (from msi and all)....
I would choose the asus over the msi due to the backplate

ok i see ... even 15€ is not worth it for me  (or the 970 is worth nothing ... i don't clearly remember ... ) and putting aside electricity price, custom model of the 290/290X are way cooler than the reference type (i have a ref under a waterblock)
also he can swap the 290X to a 290 and have a even cheaper option ... not mentioning in all bench a 970 is between a 290 and a 290x

and for me where i am a 970 is closer to 400€ too ... (well some e-tailer changed a bit the price and the specs xD it was hilarious to see "Memory: 3.5+0.5gb (fullspeed+half speed)" in the specification :D and evaluation going south because of that  )

putting that aside 15€ is not the same value as 1000INR :D as 15€/CHF is indeed nothing for me but 1000INR can be a lot for them (keeping all economics proportion in mind, on a second look it might not be the case for the op :D )

again ... not a good deal ... a 970 over a 680 is not worth it in the end, still wiser to wait the 3XX line from AMD and see what it will bring be it better tdp/perf/consumption or nvidia pricing going down (sweet dreams ...) or the 980Ti (let's dream some more about nvidia becomming honest and lowering the price of the Titan X and 980 because they fooled customer and decided to announce and release a 980Ti shortly after... 780Ti all over again :D )

@saknid is your ingame perf low or still good, do you use it for something else (crunching or whatever), it would be interesting to determine if you really need a new card, before even recommending one (unless like me you come across a sweet deal, be it a 290/290X 970/980 drat even a 780/780Ti ) plus the 680 you have is a 4gb variante ... sweet

looking at the original post made me laugh ... a TGT charged 680 ahah i have a 670 TGT from p.o.v sitting on my shelf for a friend customac build

Exactly I gonna wait for that 3XX series. No doubt prices may not go down for other flagships but yes at least I will be more confident in buying something new.

No doubt Bhai...my 680 is still living to the needs (and that too very well) but yes on some levels I see slowness (such as unity and specially Crisis 3) yet it is always playable for me...and that is why I choose to wait for the next series.

1000 INR is 15 euros. I am thinking more from the thermal aspects than power consumption because i imagine electricity is cheap in india but it's a warm country.

Now here I get a point which is actually very right I live In Delhi (Capital of India) where temp goes up to 37+ some times (or we can say always in April to July), so yes I am more concerned with the cooling thing, however electricity is not cheap yet it is good enough.

You guys seem to be forgetting that he is from india where the prices are a bit different. looking at thee 2 websites I see sellers charge a hefty premium for the top level cards. Yes, they ask more and even more for some top level GC's such as the 680 available in market (or in Online market) is still costly even that 970 and 290x series.

My In game perf is good for no of games but it goes down when I play games hungry for GC such as Unity, Crisis 3 and same.....Some times I get issue playing COD-AW.

I bought POV tgt 680 as it was the only GC available in local market at that time....and I was little disappointed when I got to see different reviews (and personal exp). :-D yet it is serving good.

1000 INR is 1000 INR and some times it is big money (sometimes not always).

no worries your English is good enough (at last for me as i am a non native English writter/speaker)

yep indeed good idea to wait for what will come next, it's what i do (except that i have a 290 so i might even wait the next next ... if i still had my 770 i would wait the next, after all a 770 is only a refined 680  )
