Planning on upgrading my GPU in the near future.
To one of the two in the subject title.

Either the Sapphire 7850 or 7870 both non pre-OC. (mainly because I have had good experience with the maker).
    First question:-
Is there much performance gain in the 7870 over the 7850 as I see the 7870 requires two PCI-E power connectors over one.

    Second question:-
Are there currently any offerings from the green team of comparable performance which would be better value for money.
If so I will be looking at either ASUS or EVGA.

Here is a comparison in performance:

I've seen some 7870 after rebates at 320$ which is not so bad price wise but still a bit expensive for what it offers. If you plan to overclock then the 7870 can get easily reach the 7950/GTX580 performance. The 7850 has a more friendly price for what it offers. Out of the box is slightly better than a HD6950 but can surpass the 6970/GTX570 when overclocked.

Currently there is nothing worth mentioning from NV in the 250$-350$ category. If you wait some time, maybe one month, then the GTX660 (also based on GK104) will be out and probably will offer better performance than the 7870 at 300$ price point.

    Widjaja says thanks.

Heck, anything you choose is going to be so much better than your 4850 you are going to splooge.

7850 gives a much better bang for buck, and that is what I would get if I am in your position.

Thanks for the input on making my decision.

Unfortunately over here we do not get rebates.
With certain online stores I buy from, I can get value points which reduces the cost of the next item I buy.

I was tempted to get an MSI 6970 Lightning a week ago but that would mean me upgrading my case as well due to it's length.
A 8800GTX can barely fit in this case.
