VLC is one of the best players ,sorry to hear it did not work for your spdif needs but there are alot of people dont use spdif and happy with VLC .It is only player at my pc

VLC is quite crappy for sure :shadedshu
I use SMPlayer and Mplayer to get smooth play back on HD content.
VLC likes to crash my Destop all the time on my jaunty build. :respect:

Not to mention the video play back is often choppy on VLC.

VLC is the only player with built in codecs. that is its only special feature. its a terrible player with so-so built in codecs.

The only reason its popular at all, is that its a good diagnostic tool for when people have installed crap codec packs and trashed their PC's.

I use Mplayer too because VLC does not adjust automatically for my TV, when I use it as a mirrored monitor for my laptop.
