I currently use avast, but had 2 viruses recently, so my questions is this. is the mircrosfot free antivirus any good?

if not what is a decent free AV (NOT AVG,had bad experiences)? I want to keep it as lightweight as possible.

I have been using Microsoft Sercurity Essentials for a few months right now, and I have yet to receive any nasty bugs yet. But I am prepared to reformat when there is an infection though.

MSE is brilliant, been using it since it was launched and nothing seems to have got past it (plus it has a tiny footprint, so you don't notice it is running).

If you're gonna switch software each time something gets past it, you'll be canging it every 3 days...

the viruses are the main reasons but the new version as well has a bigger footprint than the old one, and for some reson i just dont have as much confidence in it

I've been running MSE for a while now. While no anti-virus is perfect I like MSE for its lightweight.

Bollocks. If anything, v5 is faster and uses less resources than ever. And why lose confidence when it just got better in pretty much all areas from interface to cleaning and detection.
So MSE's 24 hour update cycle is giving you more confidence? I wish you good luck.

24 update is all you need man. Anything more is just being greedy or you go to a lot of fishy sites.

i swap when that happens. Funnily, i've been on kaspersky for 3 years with no problems.

24 hour updates is enough, IMO. you'd have to be at ground zero of the virus launch to get hit that fast.
