Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices division, the portion of the company responsible for the Xbox line of video game consoles, has brought in profits of over $500 million for the first time. Financial documents from Microsoft reveal that, during the first six months of the company's 2008 fiscal year, the entertainment division brought in $4.98 billion in revenue, marking an operating profit of $524 million. During the same time period in the 2007 fiscal year, the division amassed $3.98 billion in revenue but reported a loss of $423 million. Overall the company shipped 4.3 million Xbox 360 units in the quarter, adding up to 17.7 million since shipped launch, with a total of 9.15 million sold in North America. As previously reported, Microsoft reported the whole of its $1.06 billion loss due to the Xbox 360 warranty extension in its 2007 fiscal year.

That's a nice chunk of change. I hope Xbox keeps up the good work; some dedicated servers would be nice.

    Unfortunately

I really wish that more developers had stood behind Windows Live and what it stood for. I mean look at it the only real game that really worked for it was Shadowrun and look where that developer is now: SHUT DOWN

Well the only words I have in response to the main topic at hand here is:

DOES ANYONE ELSE HEAR THE WORDS PRICE DROP COMING VERY SOON?

The Xbox was launched in 2001.

Nice to see them turn a profit, and hopefully this means they'll stay in the videogame console market. I have really enjoyed my Xbox 360, and I will probably buy the next Xbox console, unless Nintendo acctually makes a real console next generation.

This is about the whole Xbox division, not just the 360. The whole division was started in 2001 or earlier.

On a side note, I didn't realize it was you that I was responding to till you told me on Xfire ;)
