Can someone help me understand these things? I had it before on my other video card but never used it. Now that i have a MSI 7850, i only have one dvi port, but i need to hook up another 2 monitors. Will this adapter work : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Displa...=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3374e230ed . it does state in the auction "NOTE: Adapter only works with laptops with Mini Displayport, please check with your device's output specification before placing order" and all it talks about is apple crap.. so will it work?

It might, but I wouldn't risk it. You want an active adapter to make sure you don't have any DHCP issues.

You'll want something that specifically states it is an active adapter, and active adapters are usually quite a bit more expensive than $6.

This should work: StarTech MDP2DVIS Mini DisplayPort to DVI Active A...

How many monitors are you connecting ? If you will use 3 monitors for eyefinity there were some restrictions until 7*** series ( did not follow 7*** series for eyefinity )
1-There is something called clock source on video cards , AMD cards had clock source for 2 monitors and 3th monitor had to use Display port monitor (display port does not use clock source = you can use more monitor with display port )
2-If you want to use 3 monitors without display port input than you need active adapter for 3th monitor

3-Active adapters have usb connection for power generally http://www.accellcables.com/products/DisplayPort/DisplayPort.htm .Exception is display port to vga adapters ,all of DP to VGA adapters are active and dont have usb cable .

4- AMD/ATI was talking about multi stream transport and MST hubs http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6870/2.html .There are some hubs on market but not any MST 1.2 atm ,some1.2 hubs demoed at CES fyi .

5- This was the situation until 7*** series AMD/ATI cards , i saw some 7*** series cards with 3 (or 4 ) reguler monitor output iirc but not looked closely ,i think someone may give better info for this than me btw write exact model of your video card . A bit more research showed these card with more than 2 reguler monitor connections are sapphire FLEX series video cards for 3 monitors atm .
