@HinkyDink

I agree with the general consensus. Is it possible you have it installed to a different drive in error or didn't allocate the full size of the disk to a partition?

My personal homepage says I'm a rogue time traveler.

I'd like to see that!!! Pics or it didn't happen. :p

Far be it from me to be the voice of reason...

I believe the topic was originally about someone seeing too little remaining hard drive space. This isn't a session to complain about hardware/software differences caused by base 10 and base 2 math.

Getting back to reasonable:
1) Hard drive improperly partitioned, so may be smaller than intended
2) Backup and trash can too large
3) Wrong size quoted for expansion

Given no extra information, you should do more investigation into what is actually on the drive, and where. Best of luck finding the issue, and please give us an update so the flame war over counting systems can be put to rest before it gets unpleasant....

Someones personal home page, hardly a reliable source. My personal homepage says I'm a rogue time traveler.

You are right, i realized a few minutes after quoting. It kinda makes semi-sense as far as the power rules go... I'm a scientist/Mathematician by trade so i don't like when things don't follow the same conventions i do <------ V. Biased

The whole issue of KB/MB/GB/TB/.. is fubar'd and is less than straight-forward

The drive having problems is one of two HDDs in the system. First HDD is partitoned into two( "E" is Data drive) drives and does not appear to be part of the problem. The drive in question is a HDD with only one partiton and is devoted to FSX. Flight Simulation uses 15 GB and
The rest of the 62.2 GB is taken by saved sceneries. I hope that I am able to insert an image of the screenshot of WinDirStat analysis. If it does not show, please someone direct me as to how to post an attachment.

In about three different replies, I think that i have about covered all of the symptoms. Please note the attachment on my last reply. This last is offered respctfully :Believe me, I have received much more instruction about containing systems than I needed, and very little info on my problem. Granted I don't know enough about my problem to effectively describe it. :ohwell::ohwell:

Can you take a screenshot of the properties of the hard drive that has the used/free/total space figures?

I second fordgt90concept.

To get this picture right click on your computer. Select manage. Choose disk management.

This should give us an idea of how many physical disks, as well as partitions, are on the system. From there we can help you determine a little bit more about the problem.

Is there any directories or files in New Volume (F:) besides Flight Simulator X?

To review: I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have two hard drives. One is a WD Black Caviar 1TB SATA II that is partitioned into two drives: “C” which is 467 GB and “E” (Data) which is 464 GB. Other than a bad sector in “C,” I am not aware of having any problems with these. My other HDD with the problem is a WD VRap 150 GB SATA which shows to have 139 GB. I have Flight Simulator installed on this drive. The flight Simulator takes up about 15 GBs. In this I have about installed 47 GBs of addon scenery. This should leave. I have Recycle bin that shows about 4 KB. And System Volume Information.

Have you scan disked F: recently? If you did, open the Event Viewer and look under Application for "winlogon" to view results. Copy and paste them here if you want. Scan disk might show ~40 GiB are in corrupt sectors.

FordGT,
I am on unfamiliar ground here. I have to go out of town Friday, but I will work my way through this and get back to you with the results. I appreciate your help on this.

Hey,

Let me introduce you to my idiot indicator. I call it this because it bases disk health (red, yellow, green) off of approximate values from user failure data, and not solid indicators. What it does give you is a general indicator of a drive's overall health:

http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html

This will let you know if the drive is dying, and give you a quick idea of how many bad sectors/other problems there are. This should answer Fodgt's questions, while providing a bit more information about the drive's health (and the program takes a fraction of what a full system scan does).

did you >>
a: turn off system restore for the drive in question
b: turn off recycle bin for the drive
c: use a descent Defragmentation tool like O&O or perfect disk and do an Space defrag (don't use the windows defrag tool it's useless)
d: check the size of MFT (master file table) and this file which seems to grow of it's own accord drive letter:\$Extend\$USNJRNL:$J
