Please use this thread to discuss Moar Input.

---------------
So, I got sick of using pen and paper and forgetting the settings used for the overclocks I achieved. I decided to make myself an application for tracking all the settings easily, which can then be dumped to a text document for review/safe keeping.

Here is a screenshot of how my application looks. (Notice the name I gave it... :) )

I made this application for Sandy Bridge and Sandy Bridge-E, if any of you guys want to check it out, just reply in this thread. If there is a want for this app on here, I will happily share it. I'm finishing up the export data method right now, once that is done, the app will be done.

Enjoy!

Sweet idea. Can you then reimport the text file to view old settings in the app or do you just view them as text?

I actually want to let people load a result into the app for viewing, but that may be something I'll work on in a different revision (when I have more time to play with the code).

Cool yeah I end up using a text file usually instead of pen and paper but doing so manually is still kind of a pain so this is definitely useful (especially if it formats it nicely which I never do).

Formatting stuff nicely it does/will do. That was simple to implement. Importing the data back in for viewing is a whole different story. :p

Interesting layout, it's good to start. How do you intend to interface with the motherboard to alter (if save means save your alterations) these timings, clocks, and voltages and how are you pulling the information?

Just like you normally would, with other monitoring apps. Moar Input's only purpose is to be a place where you can record your values/settings and save them for later evaluation. It's in no way a replacement for CPU-Z, hwmonitor, real temp, etc. It's just something for keeping track of things and review.

I like the GUI, but I have concerns about the usability of an application that works like this. No offense (I'm trying to be a useful critic since I'm a developer and criticism always makes software better) but, as an end user, I wouldn't want to have to copy all of my settings to an app that saves a file with the information I put in. Ignoring that other apps can typically save details at the click of a button, a person typically isn't going to want to transcribe settings from one window to another.

This is an open source .NET project that might help you figure out how to actually get these values instead of relying on the user to put them in. Just remember if you use anything out of it, to make sure to obey the license on the code. Now if you could pull that information in and update it regularly as well as being able to save it (or track it, perhaps), then you got my attention.

Ooo nice link, thanks aquinus.
That's definitely something I will look into for later versions (if I even take it that far).
I just basically wanted an "overclocking oriented" txt or rtf output file for easy viewing. For now, that's all that moar input will do.
When I have more time, I'll look into making it a full on replacement for the apps that we all use for checking misc. values. But making an all in one app like you're suggesting will be a crap load of work that I definitely don't have time for (Especially if users are expecting a bug free, everything just works, type of app).

Any good application takes time to create, I work on my own projects when I get a chance to and when I feel like it. Projects like that don't need to be rushed since you don't have a deadline. That's what I've been doing with my current project, PlumPHP.

I'm planning to use my application tonight (if i have time!) or tomorrow to track my overclocking with my new x79 fatality board. I had to rma my extreme6 due to a bad capacitor. It's going to be nice having notes of what was stable and what wasn't. I usually write all my settings down on paper, and then somehow I always lose my notebook or papers. At least now, I will always have soft copies of my configs. That was my main goal with this app. I would love to make it a full fledged app that automatically gathers info and replaces apps like cpu-z, hwmonitor, real temp, etc. That's something I can work on over time for sure, but for now, this little app will serve its simply purposes, saving my dang notes that i always lose. :)

I think my Asus P9X79 Deluxe can save multiple profiles. I haven't played around with it that much yet, I haven't had time. :(

Download link posted in the first post.

Just keep in mind, this is in no way a replacement for the apps we normally use for checking temps, voltages, speeds, etc. This is just a way to track settings a little easier.

Enjoy!

Mods, please lock or delete this thread.

I went ahead and made a thread within the programming forum.
I didn't even notice the programming forum (sorry about that!).

this beats my little notebook that always seems to disappear when I try to better my settings, would come in real handy as long as you can get back into your OS if new settings go wrong :toast:
