get either then phenom or penryn if you can wait a few months. otherwise its q6600 all the way.
barcelona is a server processor, idk why you'd want to get that, it sucks on the consumer side since its optimized for server stuff, plus why would you want to get a server mobo lol.

bottom line is amd and intel both have new processors coming out for christmas or early january, that will slash cpu prices and spawn all new mothoerboard choices so....

wait till after christmas and then make your choice because right now its all a crap shoot which is the best way to go.

and dont buy a "brand" buy the best product available.

They actually got closer to Intel with the new Black Box-CPU's, as they're not very expensive and that sweet unlocked multiplier. They still don't beat Intel though, but soon we'll find out wheter Phenom is up for the fight or not.

    The future is interesting. :)

I would actually go with one of the new AMD processors and pair it up with one of their new MB chipsets coming out as well,
so my recommendations is..... Don't waste your money buying yesterdays technology when tomorrow's is about to be released. Regrets are once lived............but have lasting effects.

Exactly. I think it's better to wait until both Intel and AMD has something new to show. In a few months we'll see what it is, and how good it is. :)

EDIT: Not that it's a bad thing to buy a q6600, but the new things might be better..

q6600 now .. penryn later .. there is no hard evidence yet as to teh claimed superiority of ANY future products over anything from teh intel camp.

whichever way you go .. get a mobo with teh most recent powerful chipset.
