Today my PC decided that it wanted to shut down abrubtly and without warning. I'm not 100% sure but I think I did hear something, though I don't know. Now the machine won't turn on.

I wasn't doing anything fancy but just using the internet so the PSU was not under any load, which is what I thought was faulty. After removing all cables and shorting the green wire it started and I tested everything with a multimeter and all voltages were correct and within the tolerance level. Wierd thing is is that when plugged in to my motherboard the standby light comes on but the machine itself won't turn on. BTW when I push the on button the standby light stays on and doesn't dim or fade out. I've also tried removing RAM sticks and changing them to no avail. PSU doesn't smell and I can't see any physical problems with components, Argh.

Help!

What do you mean by hot jump it?

Is that not what I've done already? Shorted out the green wire with a ground which powered on the PSU with no voltage problems?

Hmm try to bridge the power button pins on the board. You may have a bad switch

Guys could this al be the CPU? I recently purchased a Phenom II X6 1055T and 8 days later after my PC shuts down randomly and won't start again?

Like I've said before the standby light on the motherboard stays on which is wierd, I'll see if I can get the other CPU I've got to see if the machine boots.

Hmm

try put the board off the case and test, what about the heat? have you check the board again?
for processor err its kinda rare. so i guess skip this first, you told that your cpu works before it happen so i assume its fine, check the board or try to unplug the 24pins leave for a while then re plug in and see does it work?

Same thing happened to my computer a couple weeks ago and I tried a different PSU while the MB was outside the case with just the CPU and RAM installed and tried to turn it on by using a wire to touch the 2 pins that the power switch is connected to normally and some blue spark shot out. Thought I fried my MB from that but somehow it worked... Idk
