the last one i used overheated the NB at stock, i think it was Nforce 550. after 4 hours of desktop use (nothing intensive, no folding etc) the system would just crash. it still hit 60C with a passive thermalright NB cooler on it.

Thats why I currently have a 40mm fan blowing air directly on it. I'm thinking of getting something like a Noctua NC-U6 for it, making my rig a lot quieter.

yeah in the end we used the TR cooler and a fan.
Any brand that sells a product that does not work out of the box (passively cooled boards that overheat even in well cooled enthusiast cases, for example) are immediately deemed trash to me. i'll forgive a bad product or two, because thats bound to happen at some point ( asus striker extreme, for example) - but when they repeat the same mistake board after board, with no apparent attempts to fix it then they have failed and i will never purchase from that brand again.

Thats the thing; the heatsink is crappily designed, made more for looks that functionality, but if I replaced that then this motherboard would be perfect for budget gaming/overclocking. I've not had any other trouble with it, and it even resets by itself after a bad OC.

Asus made in japan (assembled in japan) rules but its really pricey, im using an MSI board right now (550 chipset) but the North bridge IC is very hot on the stock heatsink:eek: need to modify it to be cooler:banghead: i think tougher motherboards are great for gaming, I cast my vote on ASUS, tougher components means great for gaming
