MSI GTX 465/470 Gold Edition

I bought this card from a member on this forum, great guy I might add (DaedalusHelios), but I cannot get display port 2 to light. Does the second display port natively light or does it have to be activated In the Nvidia control panel. What I'm asking is you should be able to boot from either port and it light correct?

u want to run dual monitor? normally the first port closed to the hdmi is the primary dvi port, maybe that's why u can't on default get any signal out.

normally u activate it though Windows or Nvidia Control Panel.

Okay so it is normal for display 2 not to automatically start up you need to activate it correct in the control panel? I was wondering with ATI either one always booted. Also display port 2 is nearest the HDMI port so maybe thats why display port 2 doesn't light.

AFAIK, on all of my GTX470s either one of the DVI ports can be used, but let me reboot and make sure.

Edit: Just shutdown, switched the DVI cable from the port further from the HDMI to the one closest to the HDMI and it function identically. When I power on the machine the monitor recieves a signal and the POST screen is shown. No need to activate the port in Windows or anything.

strange why isn't my GTX 465 working then , do you have a MSI gtx 470. FYI It shows all the ports in the Nvidia control panel active it just won't light port 2. The prior owner flashed it to a a GTX 470

I don't know why yours isn't working. Once you boot into Windows, assuming Win7, pull the DVI plug out and plug it into the other port. It should automatically pick this up and switch to the new port and output to the monitor. If it doesn't then there is definitely something wrong, possible a bad port.

They use the game PCB, and if he flashed it to a GTX470, it might not even be recognized as an MSI card anymore anyway(the BIOS and cooler are the only differences between most GTX470/465s).

Well I am thinking the Mini HDMI on that side might be the default and DVI2 might need to be set in th Nvidia control panel that's why there is no signal. I now have a default GTX465 bios and can RMA the card I believe they go by manufacturer date but we will see. MSI is funny about RMAs sometimes.

The problem with RMAing it is they might send you back a standard GTX465 that won't unlock.

I hope not since this is a limited Gold Edition GTX 465 which is much more expensive. I think a GTX 460 Hawk or GTX 560 TwinFrozr mght be more likely. Still I only use one monitor but if it ends up that one DVI is dead it devalues the card a bit. You have given me something to think about. I'm hoping DaedalusHelios can help me out with some info so I can start the rma if possible.

On my EVGA cards, both DVI and the mini HDMI push signal full time and auto recognize

I would try the stock bios, in reality, it's something that likely would have never been tested until now

Tried the stock bios and DVI 2 won't give me a signal. I may have a friend bring over his monitor so I can try to activate that port in the Nvidia control panel.

Good idea but that's the bios the original owner,DaedalusHelios, flashed it with and I'm using now with no change.

oki, there is just a lot of GTX470 firmwares out there ^^;

but i hope u will get the problem fixed as soon as possible so u don't need to RMA the card, maybe end up with a standart GTX465 og GTX470.

This DVI2 port is dead and I'm running into other issue that I won't mention here. Thanks to all who tried to help it appears the DVI2 port is defective.


FYI HDMI doesn't give signal on my monitor either.

Thanks for sending it back to me for a full refund. Not RMA as that would take too long. It was sold on ebay and not the forums. We have been in contact. I was unaware you needed tech support in a thread though. It is out for delivery today BTW so you will have your refund soon in concordance with Ebay TOS and the ebay claim that was filed.
