    Then they were still optical drives, Blu-Ray disks work with essentially the same (optical) principles as CD/DVD drives. :)

    Of course, but if you go into a shop and ask for an optical drive, you may not be offered a Blu-Ray drive ;) Same as the DVI/HDMI mistaken identity case!

    That will definitely change once Blu-Ray has become what DVD is today. Now it's still so special that it has to be specifically mentioned in bricks & mortar shop when asking for it (though webshops ussually do already regard it as one and the same, sort of).
