I am looking at buying a Samsung T260HD. However, it has a TN panel and I have been reading that its the worst of the three panels, with S-IPS generally being regarded as the best. I would be ok with a 24", but dont want to go smaller, and going larger moves it out of my budget. Can anyone explain the difference in the panels, point me somewhere that can, or recommend a good monitor and tell me why you like it? Thanks in advance!

Look for the quote posted by Black Panther, should be enough to explain a little bit about panel types.
If you need more info google is your friend ;)

What I know is, it depends on what your budget is and what you need it for.

TN panels may be worse, but it is generally considered best for gaming due to response times :)
And the other plus factor being generally cheaper to produce meaning cheaper for the consumer.

I'm currently looking at a Hyundai 24" W240D v2 (TN panel version) because of inputs and certain reviews I've read and that its just in budget.

Erm hope that helps :p I know the reply is late (just noticed you posted last year xD)

2ms response time, 24" standard resolution in a barely smaller but MUCH cheaper package, 12000:1 contrast ratio all for 209$...

Erm, I've just received the Asus VH226 and it's amazing. The quality and looks are awesome. I very highly recommend it for you. It also has 1xDVI 1xVGA 1xHDMI 1x3.5mmInput 1x3.5mmOutput.

    Seriously recommended.

Do not get a tn panel, you will get greyish spots on your screen. Also contrast ratio spent matter, pretty much you won't notice over 1000:1
