Ok so, I have a AMD Radeon HD 7470
Slot Type PCI Express 2.1 x16
Video Output DVI-I and DisplayPort
Memory Size 1 GB

I installed it into a an HP Pavillion a6803w Desktop
With a PSU of 300w

I have onboard graphics.
I installed my GPU card,
Booted up my PC after
Downloaded the necessary updates & drivers.
Powered down my PC and connect my VGA to my new video card.

Booted up my PC again had weird issues, including freezing at log on screen,
Weird crashes or freezes almost in minutes of log on
& at one point my network adapter stopped functioning and showed the yellow triangle with the ! symbol.

I really want to get this thing up and going so any advice would be ideal

Thank you!

Try the drivers again from AMD. If that does work take it out and see if it runs normal again

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
First you have to uninstall the Nvidia drivers through the control panel. Also uninstall AMD/ATI drivers.

Then you have to boot to the BIOS and disable the integrated video chipset.
"NOTE:*Either integrated graphics or the PCI Express x16 slot are usable at one time; they are not usable concurrently." Right from the website.

After these are done install the new card, connect the monitor to it and boot to windows.

Reinstall the AMD driver package.

^^ Unless the card is defective this will solve the issue 100%.

Fun fact for dells and possibly others. You cannot boot with a card unless secure boot is disabled. On a semi-related note, UEFI is a joke. I will never use it as long as legacy still lives in the BIOS.

Well thanks for the advice guys, I tried exactly as you've said. When finally booting to the PCI-E x16 I cant even get to my log on screen. Flashes of a black screen and occasional lines flashing up. I don't have reason to suspect defect. Just wanna get it working. It seems to be perfectly fine with its fan running as well as coming up fine in my device manager.

Sounds defective to me. Lines (and artifacts) are a sign. I had a 660ti that would boot, but immediately black screen at logon when the driver loads. It played games just a few days earlier and got worse.

remove old nvidia drivers, check for newer motherboard drivers/bios updates before installing gpu drivers
