so currently i have mushkin memory 3-1gb sticks in my rig. i haven't had any issues with this memory as a matter of fact i bought this brand on a whim when i was upgrading my rig a few years ago. never looked at any other ram since then. as of late thou i have begun to see more and more loading times on my rig. everything is pretty much new with the exception of memory. i have come to the conclusion that the memory might be in need of upgrading,(by the way my rig stats are posted under my profile :) ). i know mushkin has not let me down in the past but im find myself looking at different brands,in particular corsair and crucial. im sure they are exceptional brand memory but im not a total expert when it comes to choosing the correct memory and all the factors that may affect my rig and its components. im not opposed to using muskin as a memory choice. in fact would rather stay with them, but i also like to have options and feedback on whats other users experiences with the types of memory that is out there.

all i know is i think its time to get this last upgrade. i guess im looking for some good choices and recommendations for my rig. to me it feels slow and laggy.

thanks in advance :rockout:

I like gskill myself but its honestly hard to go wrong with just about any brand.. speed and timing is most important.

I could see only have 3gb of ram a issues.. no doubt gaming will eat that up. go for a kit that is like 4gbx2 1866mhz cas 9.

Seriously, what james said. Get 8 gigs of the cheapest ram you can find. You won't notice any benefit aside from memory benchmarking so spend the money elsewhere. A ssd for example.

I'm sorry. Your original post is a bit hard to read.

So currently you have 3 sticks of 1GB memory, for a total of 3GB I assume. Your computer is having longer and longer loading times. The whole post says your looking at upgrading your memory. You are looking at other brands besides mushkin, specifically corsair and crucial.

You seem to be asking what brands you should get. My answer is saying brand is unimportant. Get the one with the best warranty at the lowest price with the timings you want.

As I mentioned, you have 3 sticks of ram. Your motherboard has 4 slots of ram. If using 3, at least 1gb of your memory is not in dual channel mode. This just means it is not as fast as it could be, but it wouldn't slow it down.

You are saying your computer is seeming slow and laggy. I doubt your memory is causing this. Most likely it is windows slowing down over time, which it does. Windows is a messy os that slows as it ages. An SSD with a fresh install of windows would make your computer feel fast again, not new memory.

Also, if you fill up all 3GB of your memory which is possible depending on what you do... there would be a large slow down that would make you laggy. If this is the case memory is what you should upgrade.

No problem. My first post did not have all the information you needed, so I was just elaborating. Hope that gets you where you need to go.

And not correct either.
Not all Ram is made the same, cheap usually means in quality too, and it won't have a lifetime warranty like good brands, such as Gskill.

If you look at what I first said, you would realize we actually agree. Get the one with the longest warranty. There are brands, like gskill that offer lifetime warranties making anything less not worth it. I also said with the lowest price, and in my experience gskill always has the lowest price when I am looking for specific timings.

Still though, dram does not seem to have a wide margin of quality at the low end of price. I support this with gskill often being the lowest price at the timing I am looking for. They also have a lifetime warranty.

Not that other brands are better or worse than gskill, they just hit all my criteria. Long warranty(nothing longer than lifetime) and cheapest at the timings I want.

Lifetime warranty is usually a good indication of quality, but if the company has poor customer service/RMA then is it better?

Personally, I prefer Mushkin.

TIL ram needs warranty, since when does ram fail?
I have had memory fail once, it was from a laptop. There wouldn't be programs like memtest if memory did not fail.

DOA is one thing, but i'm interested in ram that works IN SPEC, on the same platform using the same voltages, where it stops working for example a year later (to the point where a voltage bump doesnt help), this situation actually happens? cuz i see a lot of brands with 'lifetime' warranties on ram, something you rarely see in any other electronics

@Norton I think had a really old stick of gskill he rma'd. One of my patriot sticks needs a little extra voltage to run stable. That only stick of ram I have ever had truly fail on me was in a laptop I owned for a year.

Don't think it was me on that GSkill- maybe [Ion]? I do remember something being discussed about it and it being replaced w/o issue.

My personal experience on ram:

- had a 4GB stick of Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 fail on me- returned to NewEgg as it failed shortly after I bought it. Replacement set is fine AFAIK
- Sold a 2x4GB set of Patriot DDR3-1600 to a member here that failed. I originally bought it used- not sure why it failed? I replaced it for the buyer with a 2nd set
- Every other set I've had (new and used) has been trouble free so far... that's at least a dozen sets over the past few years.

Personally, I prefer Mushkin.

Big fan of Mushkin myself as well. I went through probably three sets with them finding the right ones for my current board (which...finally will be upgraded this year...WAY past due). But the customer service with them is great. Always quick turnaround and no issue getting it RMA'd. They were more concerned making sure I had the right sticks for the board than anything else.

It'll be a toss up with G.Skill and Mushkin when I upgrade later this year....with a strong lean towards Mushkin if the prices are close.
