What motherboard are you using?

Looks like he's using this mb. And yeah val disregard everything being said about you cpu needing to be oc'd to not bottleneck the gx2. The only way your getting bottleneck is if the cpu is getting so hot it has to slow itself down, which is probably what's happening, along w/ the gpu overheating. If everything is working properly (heatsink properly mounted and fan up high on gpu) you should be able to handle crysis on very high and get over 15-16k in 06 at stock settings no problem. Oc for extra goodness. :)

Stupid question...
Did you install the card?
How big is your powersupply. I believe these require a 600+ watt PS.

they do, but they also require a 8 pin and a 6 pin pci-e connector. I would think her PSU would be enough considering the connections the gx2 requires. But it doesn't hurt to ask, what PSU are you running Val?

Can you give us a 3dmark06 result screeny, and maybe a cpu-z. Also download this, and check what kind of gpu temps your hitting on load, and this to see what kind of cpu temps your hitting on load. Overheating due to a badly seated cpu hs would be my first guess, you gotta crank the fan up on the gpu too. I get 14k in 06 w/ half your gpu and less than half your proc, you should be rocking upwards of 17k easy.

What cpu cooling are you using?

Here is the print out from 3dmrk06

Actually at stock setting, the q9450 will bottleneck the card(keep that in mind for the future), but that isn't the problem here, Val should be scoring twice as much on 3dmark06 at stock settings. So moving on, the PSU?

Bottleneck it enough to not get the full power of the gx2, sure. Enough to make crysis unplayable over medium and 7k on 06, not a chance. Are you using the stock hs val? And what thermal paste? Did you get the temps? Those weren't quite the 06 results I was going for, I was hoping for something with the score results page for the three main tests. And go ahead and make sure all pins are fully and firmly attached on the cpu hs.

Something I just noticed from your GPU-Z screenshot...get off those 175.xx drivers, try the 177.66 or .79 betas and see if those help ya out...the .79's are in pre-whql so they should be pretty close to official.

Also wouldn't hurt to download dxweb installer and make sure you have the most recent DX updates.

Just my 2 cents, but I did noticed a performance improvement on my 9600GT from 174 series to 177 series, I steered clear of the 175's due to others disliking them.

Hope that helps! Don't think it'll make THAT big of a difference, but who knows?

I would go and download the latest drivers for the card. Then go and play in bios with the stepping and making sure the ram is set at the appropriate ram speed.. Those to along with the driver can do things with 3dmark06...

Maybe, however crappy psu symptoms are usually a bit different from this. Unless this is not capable of pumping around 200w of it's rated power, I don't think that's the issue. There would likely be random turn-offs and such. Not that it shouldn't be remedied, but I don't think that's causing this problem. I'm still betting on cpu overheating. I've seen it I don't know how many times, the 775 heatsinks are rough, and it's easy not to fully attach them. And when they aren't fully attached, things exactly like this start to happen. At least maybe look at your BIOS temps val?

Gpu doesn't look too bad there. Your fan isn't at 0% right, it is probably at like 27% or so I would hope. I don't know why it would be at 0%, if that's busted then there's your problem. Cpu temps isn't too bad either, a little warm, but not terrible. However, core temps are really what's important here, that's why I linked you that program real temp. If you cpu at idle is reporting 48c, your cores are very possibly around 60c, and you don't really wanna go any higher than that. Still, to cause that much performance loss they're gonna need to get upwards of 80c at least probably. Try the programs I linked earlier and see your fan speed and core temps. Barbaric may be right though, you are warm, but not warm enough to cause that kind of performance loss, may be your psu. Stock intel hs?

 Yeah it can be terrible. When I was just learning the ropes of the comp building game, I had a pin out on my pentium d. I hit over 100c in the BIOS, and did so for a couple of days. I kept asking my friend and he was like no it's fine, thinking I meant Fahrenheit. Tried to play Oblivion when it was like that, choppy as hell. Chip still works like a charm.......

I've had my gx2 hit almost 100'c (forgetting to turn the fan up when I game) and never had anything but flawless performance from it.

i have looked at my fans ( ihave 3 x 120cm fans in antec 900 the HS are standed and i have no additional cooling.
i will download those links you sent and post the results, imm downloading the new driver as we speak.
as for the paste used on the cpu i dont know this machine was already assembled when i bought it a few weeks ago.
i have had vista on this comp and the 3d marks were better only i thoughti would put xp back on to see if it was a vista driver problem tha caused lack of performance.
i got P7690 WITH THE VANTAGE TEST.
thanks.

Sheesh my 3800 x2 gets 7600 to 8k with my 2900 lol.. Maybe try with one card then try it with the other after see if there running the same as each other and with better marks.

Check for heat at the sides of the case watch the temps.

i have looked at my fans ( ihave 3 x 120cm fans in antec 900 the HS are standed and i have no additional cooling.
i will download those links you sent and post the results, imm downloading the new driver as we speak.
as for the paste used on the cpu i dont know this machine was already assembled when i bought it a few weeks ago.
i have had vista on this comp and the 3d marks were better only i thoughti would put xp back on to see if it was a vista driver problem tha caused lack of performance.
i got P7690 WITH THE VANTAGE TEST.
thanks.

Well now see that score isn't too bad. Not great, but not terribly wrong. 7k in 06 is way to low, 7k in vantage is a little more where it should be.

i went into the nvida control panel and changed from Multi gpu mode to display mode which disabled one side of the card, i then ran 3dmark and got worse results, so that shows that the card is working in sli, also with the 9800gx2 there are lights on the power connectors and dvi connectors all show green.

What exactly is the problem your encountering in crysis at higher settings?
