So this happens when I let the rig sleep for a bit. I assume it's from going cold(?) after a bit but it's getting annoying.

Suggestions?

Fan motor dead. Don't assume just because a fan is a year it won't be bad. Fans have different motors and different types of bearings, all with different longevity or ability to go horizintal and different level of motor noise.

Of course this is all completely separate from the other qualities upon which fans are evaluated like size, type of fan blade, airflow, air movement db level, etc

I like using a grease personally as if it leaks it don't get every were. I put some super lube in some Rosewill fans some 7 years ago and still run as they did when i had them.

easy to fix. i have a thread somewhere here that shows you how to fix this and make it as good as new.

1. Take fan out of case
2. Set on fire
3. Hit with hammer
4. 2 and 3 can be switched
5. Buy new fan.

Oiling it would maybe help it for a week at best. You can tell it's vibrating from the noise. There's an uneven spot on the bearing/sleeve.

You could try " tickling" it with a screw driver.

PS it doesnt always work if you dont get it exactly right, especialy with laptop fans. This one took 2 attempts and it still wouldnt work.

EDIT.. you must unplug it first or it may never work again.

, they have been known to stop if I hit them hard and fast with the flick of a finger. Even more pro tip, replace the fan.

How about this year putting that fan in the freezer, and buying a new one just in case this one does not work after it defrosts.

plug it into a power source (12V battery?) so it spins

set it on fire via flammable liquids
hit it with a hammer while on fire and spinning.
freeze the remainder into a block of ice, then bake it in the oven.
