wells thats something else he can try with relative ease :toast: the point is fixing the issue i saw 350watt and then 500 watt no name lol it raised red flags in terms of opperating properly but if its just a cable no sweat

and your right i never bothered to think about an IGP .... most boards they auto disable if a card is detected but if its not doing so then that would mean the IGP is operating and the new gpu is disabled seems he may have to check the bios altho since its micro atx im guessing its an OEM rig and his bios options will be few indeed

I have to agree with these guys about the power supply. It is most likely your issue. Also, I hate to give a lecture, but you should NEVER use a crap generic power supply for any reason. You run the risk of taking out not just your power supply and graphics card, but the entire system. Unstable power is BAD, and generic supplies consistently have unstable rails.

Eric, I've had several customers systems not boot because they tried to run a GPU on a weak power supply.

Most likely is PSU is not good enough (generic):shadedshu

But it could also be is PCI-e not bean an 2.0 it's only 1.1 or 1.0...
http://en.kioskea.net/guide/details/1165200-asrock-945gcm-s

Some people at AMDGame forum had problem using the 5000 cards series on PCI-e 1.0 & 1.1
with certain chipsets i know there was Nforce4 but i think other boards too...not sure wich one thought?

well i checked asrocks site dosent list the mobos PCIe spec so i can be sure my guess is still PSU but i want to know what the amps on the rails are before i make a final judgement and like erocker said it could also be the IGP overriding the new gpu altho why i have no idea but it is a small possibility

I don't think so because when he put back is old card in it's work fine , so my guess PSU or PCI-e not 2.0

I am using the DVI adaptor that was included in the 5750 box however I just tried it with the 1650. It worked perfectly.

we really need to have the card tested in another rig if it works fine in another setup its not the card that leaves PCIe spec or PSU if he goes to a local PC shop they SHOULD let him test a psu on his system that should show for certain (its all depends on the show and the ppl working there tho so its random luck as to if they will)

I have too but not in a case like this. I'm still pretty sure it communication failure between the graphics card and the monitor's OSD chip.

Try another monitor cable or monitor.

I sold a pair of cards to a friend on another forum, neither would work when they arrived, he sent them back they were fine here, I took pics of the running rig etc and contacted the person, I mailed them back and again they wouldn't work, We finally got him to try another monitor cable and it worked.

Come to think of it, I had a Sapphire 2900XT a couple of years ago that would NOT work with one of my monitors. I researched it and found this was a firmware compatibility issue with Sapphire and certain brands of monitors. Could be the same type of issue.

However, I still stand by my thought on the PSU. Even if it would run this card temporarily, I wouldn't do it. Just not worth running a cheap PSU. It is the foundation of your system, and the rig should be built around the power supply first.

Oh I agree it is the only part of your sytem which can physically destroy all of the components in a system, quite a Rare occurance but it has happened.

I know you said 500W. but you have not identified the brand. It need 75W and if your is multi 12 volt rail then you may not be getting the required voltage.

yea 14amp and 13amp on the 12v lines i do not believe is sufficient in a guru 3d review its recommend that theres 40amps on the 12v rails to sufficiently power a 5770 and an i7 way overkill in terms of power for your system true but id say at least 25amps is needed and 14 + 13 is not how it works so all in all i doubt the powersupply has the ability to run that setup it might be able to but i doubt it would last very long

notice the 30amps on the 5volt rail yea thats done so they can say HEY HEY OVER HERE WE HAVE 500 WATT PSUs when in fact its not really a 500watt its just marketed as such

after some more looking around 40amps seems to be whats recommended for solid stability but id say 30amps would suffice on the 12v line (single line psu) not sure on multi rail setups as i refuse to use them) all in all i think the PSU isnt enough but id test the card in a different computer if you can

If anyone has knowledge of a good Micro Atx supply that would be suitable please inform me :-] I cannot seem to find one after a few Google searches..

My budget is £110 (Preferably not
all of it lol)

Thanks,
Night Will get back quicker tomorrow!

I have to agree that that psu would not power that system + new gfx. However you should atleast get a BIOS screen.

Is the owner of said computer able to give us a photo of the inside of the box? It could be anything from being as simple as a secondary power connection not plugged in to a <electrical component> having been knocked off the motherboard while fiddling around in there.

if he knocked out a component the machine wouldnt boot with the x1650 therefore everythings hooked up at least im going to guess so just the PSU in that machine isnt up to snuff

first he REALLY needs to test that GPU in another rig to make sure its working properly after the gpu is shown to have no faults then it leaves the PSU and my above recommendation fits his budget and is far above what he needs and of a far better quality

The hd5770 runs quite healthily on my cousins no name oem horrible psu, it's unlikely that it is the PSU. Plus, as erocker said, the only problems would be when games start. The gpu fan also starts up, showing that the card itself is actually turning on.

I just received a new 5750 today and works great. I have a Corsair 450VX and it has 33A on a single 12 volt rail. Now the only question is what new monitor to get. Currently I have a Dell P190 19" Anyway I went from a 8600GT to this and it is sweet.

Edit: Test your card in another comp

ive already said this and paulieg has seen machines not boot when theres not enough power

test the card in another machine ive said it mulitple times now as it will prove if the card is fully functioning or not that simple he can also try a different monitor its easy as going to the town dump grabbing an old CRT and testing it ive done it before myself to simplify trouble shooting on other ppls machines. if niether of those options show the card working the cards dead if the card works in another machine but not on his machine its 99% likely the psu aint going to cut it

and as i pointed out why buy a junk micro atx psu when you can just get a new case for $25 euros and new corsair ATX psu for $60 euros and just transfer the rig to the new case in the event that the PSU really is the culprit

Most likely is PSU is not good enough (generic):shadedshu

I do have to say, generic doesn't mean its going to be a bad psu.

Buying a bad psu makes it a bad PSU.

I've had epic no name PSUs before now.

Ones that completely abused and are still running strong in other peoples systems now : ]

well the pci-e slot is a x16 from what i can see on asrock website so it should be an pci-e 2.0?
i would definitely go with the corsair 550w psu crazy posted but i would go for this case instead of the CM elite 330:
Yes its a casecom but i have heard VERY impressive things about it from various websites.

or you can go for the NZXT gamma which is impressive also.

If you go with the casecom i would recommend get a aftermarket cooler for your CPU like maybe an Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro, you would need to overclock your CPU a little bit so you don't bottleneck your 5750.

If you purchase the corsair 550w+casecom case+the cpu cooler it be £106 in total
