National Internet charge in Germany now resolved

From 2005-04-01 on everyone in Germany who owns an "Internet-capable PC" has to pay a national monthly fee for it.
Germany will be the first country in the whole world that levys this kind of Internet-charge.
The motive for doing so is because you are able to listen to /watch the stream-portfolio of the national payed broadcasting and TV stations like ARD and ZDF.

Now that really sucks, hope nobody ever follows their example :mad: What were they thinking????!! :confused: :(
Why would anybody be forced to pay for TV channels that you may not even be intersted in watching on TV?? :confused:
And take this for example: In my house, my family has 4 "internet capable" PCs, basically one PC on each room, (and two "internet capable" pocket PCs, don't think those would qualify though, right?? :confused: ), that means that if my family lived in Germany we would have to pay for 4 PCs?? Outrageous :mad:

hmmm. first off you'll only have to pay if you don't pay already TV fees for the two named stations ARD and ZDF. second the fee applies only once per residence. you can have 100 PC all with internet access and only have to pay once. BUT IT STILL SUCKS! >.<

the fee for both TV stations is going to be 17,03 euro per month in the near future. for what? i don't watch their programs - but i still have to pay because i MIGHT be watching those programs. grrrrrrrrrr.

you can have 100 PC all with internet access and only have to pay once.
That is correct as long as you don't do business with them like for instance hotels. If you are in a business that utilizes Internet PCs you got to pay for them based on the area your business floor covers. And that will very likely be a huge lot more than 17.03 Euro.

Read Articel 5 §11. There is a transitional period til Dec 31 2006 - so no fees til then.
